Hi All

I have a decent car insurance domain name which I intended to test as an adwords/cpa site, I haven't found the time to follow through but would like to at least make some back burner income from search traffic.

There's one big insurance info site that offers 2nd tier affiliate payment along with free content for associates, soulds like the payoff would be down in the adsense level.

Any suggestions for making a bit of income from it without a big adwords gambke would be appreciated.

Following up, I did run across one "premium ppc" company specializing in insurance: surehits.com probably pays better than adwords, though I haven't seen the numbers yet.

Again, the more common pay per lead car insurance affiliates pay $4 - $9 per lead.

For starters, I'd get Gary Thiem to help promote your site.
That guys all over the place with his car deals.

After that, I'd actually look around some of the nets that do retail affiliates. CJ, ShareASale, Clixgalore, etc.
Most of those places are going to have insurance deals going, and they'll generally pay out decently on a lead. I've seen some insurance offers paying at $100AUD a lead... Dunno what the US market is like though.

Anyway, apply for all and sundry, and then make a comparison site.
Financial and insurance services are things people like to pretend they've bothered to do research on. So if you can get a site going that realistically gives the pros & cons to this or that insurance offer, maybe does the comparison table, etc., you're likely to get people clicking through and filling out the forms to get a quote sent.

While you're at it, you may want to ensure the site has a mailing list (aweber will do) so that you can send new offers by email, and also do a bit of cross selling for loans and credit cards in the emails.
