local listing competitor

Not sure if this is relevant to this site. I have a local business (auto service) and a close competitor closed down . Another guy took over the garage under a different business name . I found out he is still using the previous tenant ph# but a diiferent business name. The previous owner has a website the comes up on local listing high but the website link doesnt connect because the old owner removed the website. . So people call the new guy using the old ph# and when they ask why there a different name they said its the same owner he decided to change name . Is there a way to get google local listing to remove his listing ? He is using the previuos owner ph# and listing with out his permission
 


He is probably just saying it is the same owner b/c people hate change for the most part and people feel comfortable with an older business. Not sure how you could prove or even why Google would care. All they would probably do is just update the old info since it is a valid business still.
 
i just dont want him listed because hes taking business my business by low balling the prices. Hes not smart enough to know about google listing

So if you go out of business and your website goes off i cant believe google would keep it up for ever . if thats so half the info on google is invalid and outdated.

Does google local listing send out may be a email verifing the business is still viable maybe yearly?
 
I checked into a local business that has been out for about 3 months or so. When I typed the name in with the city, it gave me the listing. Then beside it, it said "Is this listing accurate?" Hit that and it submits something to google. That is the best I can think of for you. Good luck with it.
 
Pretty much google doesn't give a shit about local listings. Once you're in and approved it's really really hard to get you out. There's a group of payday sites that got approved 2 years ago they're just nothing but affiliate links now and google doesn't do anything about it. So your time might be spent better chasing other things.
 
While we're on the subject, how do you get to the top of the local listings on there for a certain keyword? It seems to have to do more of where your business is located than keywords on your site.

I've set up example businesses just to get people to call me for my services and all I have done is submit the business within the category that you are targeting. For example, in my town, I have been #1 on local listings for rental property listings over legit ones and didn't even have my site optimized. However, I just targeted it and that was it.

I am not sure about this, but it may be that Google gives more weight to those who submit it and verify it then the natural ones that might show up. Just a theory of mine and I have nothing to back it up other then what I have seen from my experience.
