Hey,

I am reading a lot of materials here and on other sites, and many of the newbie guides give details on how to make money using ppc or other expensive stuff.

My question is, is there a good start to finish guide that doesn't involve any expenses other than a domain name and hosting?

Thanks in advance

It's so difficult to get the info you need with all the sales/scams ou there. I'm new as well and it's very daunting and could feel like info overload...i've been regularly reading a couple of blos, particularly like Terry Dean.org and reading boo "make a fortune promoting other peoples stuff"

The "secret" is to start. Register a domain name, make a landing page or blog and start driving traffic.

very true. learn the basics and take action while learning. you'll probably make mistakes, no one is perfect but hopefully you'll learn from your mistakes and move forward. what you should know how to do for profitable affiliate marketing: setting up/tracking campaign and keywords, building a basic landing page, doing demographic research, writing/ad sales copy, buying traffic(finding sources of traffic that you think will get your offer to convert), optimizing your bids.

along the way you'll learn the ins and outs of all of these things. you might also want to learn some php and SQL as a lot of landing pages are hosted utilizing a LAMP stack. definitely not essential. you can also outsource landing page and ad design to people better at it than you. but it helps to kinda know what you're talking about so you can get quality designs.

you might also want to learn about managing a linux server as in the future when you have more traffic you will have to have dedicated servers or a VPS. knowing about linux will help you. but again having this knowledge is not essential.

the most important skill is having marketing knowhow. knowing and understanding the mindset of your traffic(buyers), the product and its demographics are crucial in delivering results for your campaigns and consequently the ad networks you work with and the advertisers. if you understand these elements well you will be able to cater your ads and sales copy to drive conversions.

good luck!

thanks for sharing this. Will definitely help people who happen to be beginners. I agree with you that everyone learns by making mistakes.

The Nickycakes newb guide is very good. Right now there's a shit ton of $100 Google Adwords vouchers out there. Get one, make a campaign and start doing it.

I started on a campaign this week and started it yesterday. I made one sale but I'm learning a ton.
