Happy Monday

I have heard but have not tried the ugly landing page theory.

The long scrolling, lots of 32 pt red and blue text with the call to action way at bottom -

think Corey Rudl for all you other old timers

or clickbank style

i have seen hyper6 and his look good - I am looking for opposite

i have heard it said recently, " go ugly early"

Thanks

Hire me! I co founded geocities!

Is this post real? Do ugly landing pages work? And for what purpose? I mean... I know that when it comes to Clickbank sales pages, they just want all that info there because the entire thing is a giant sales pitch... How does making things ugly help? It's far from impressive...

Test it and find out.

Though I think some audiences can be influenced by geocities style clip art, a thing about "ugly" pages is that they often focus on the meat and potatoes. Craigslist and reddit aren't pretty from a web designer standpoint, but their formats work.

Part of Google's success is because of the minimalism of its main page. When they came out, the others like Lycos and Yahoo were doing the opposite in that they were making their start pages more and more cluttered.
