So here's something I've been reluctant to post. When I trip, I feel guilty and terrible about affiliate marketing because believe it or not, it's just not noble. At its core, it's dishonest and takes advantage of weaknesses most humans have. It doesn't HAVE to be, but the truth of the matter is that it is, 99% of the time.

You can believe it's not YOUR fault some depressed overweight girl somewhere is hopeful that she'll lose weight but just ends up losing money and fucking up her credit (i.e., has to cancel her CC, in an extreme case), just because of some ploy we put up purporting inane results, masquerading under the guise of a "scientific study."

But as I get older, I realize that we sometimes need to take responsibility, otherwise you can always find a way to put the blame elsewhere. If I give a child a gun and he kills himself, it's my fault. Obviously *he* did it so he should take the blame, or his parents could, or his Gods, but anyone sensible would put the blame on me. If I let my cat go out during rush hour NYC, it's my fault if she gets run over, even if she was dying to leave the apartment.

If I jam everything into my closet and close the door before it topples over, and then somebody else comes by, opens the closet door and gets hurt because my stack of anvils fell on them, it's *my* fault - even though technically it's not my fault. I could say they should open closet doors carefully, or need a faster reaction time, or 100 other excellent, logical excuses.

"Hey, don't look at me. I'm just the AM. Go bitch to the networks. Go bitch to the Brazilians for growing Acai. Go bitch to the fat girl's parents. Go bitch to her God(s) for making her fat or skimping on her body chemistry." Point is, ultimately somebody needs to take the blame, but all of us just seem to turn the other cheek and point fingers.

I'm not anti-marketing, I love it, but I'm very anti-ploys and shady marketing schemes.

It's normally easy to justify ripping people off, especially because we get ripped off all the time ourselves, but this stuff doesn't go over well on acid or mushrooms.

Merry Christmas Everyone! :xmas-smiley-016:

The easy solution is to stop pushing shitty products, and sell something you are comfortable with.

FUCK! I knew there was a reason there is almost always some hot piece of ass in beer commercials. And here I thought chicks just liked beer.

So what you're saying is, sell the fat girls donuts?

interesting.

Provided you aren't claiming the donuts will help you lose 5lb a day and showing before-after pics you stole off flickr, sure. Sell 'em donuts.

Though, I think we just struck gold here. How about.. selling the fat girls acai-flavored donuts?

The Acai flavor or berry does nothing to make someone lose weight. Its purely the catch part of the marketing. Get people to THINK that because Acai is in it, and it sounds foreign to them or maybe they heard a bit about it and don't truly understand it, so they'll recognize it and automatically and subconsciously associate ACAI with being GOOD FOR YOU, and think DIET MUST WORK THEN.

Thats why Acai is blowing up, not because of the taste or the fact that its just an anti-oxidant and has NOTHING to do with losing weight.

You don't need to take LSD to know these things you bumbling idiot.

Obviously.. but it's my fault. I forgot the /sarcasm closing tag on that post.

The acid just made me feel guilty. Had nothing to do w/ knowing anything about weight loss (it's not like acid is gonna make you start some meth campaigns just because it's scientifically proven to make you lose weight fast) or marketing; Except maybe the realization that my prospects are actual human beings with feelings and lives. Things that we as marketers, especially none face-to-face, lose awareness of pretty quick in the game.

...which is why i never ever do shrooms anymore.

estrogen and empathy get so extremely elevated that they cloud better judgment.

If you are doing something and thinking.. "how do I keep from getting caught", then that is by definition a criminal mentality.

Life lesson: you become what you do. Who would want to be Scott Richter.. really?

Just stop ripping people off. Living with the fact you could be making a lot more cash is easier than living with the knowledge that you make your money bullshitting people into buying crap.

There are so many products out there to promote and some will toy with your morals, take LEC offers for examples. You know the people can't afford the service with a CC, so let's bill them through their phone. There are campaigns out their that do help people, take diabetic campaigns for example, or dating, everyone does need to get laid. If you are driving legit traffic to campaigns you feel are morally acceptable and it's putting food on the table and a roof over your head, take another dose a chill, it's all good.
