Monetizing Hotlinked Images

Canada... eh!
A website in the top 200k of alexa decided to hotlink a gif file off a webpage of mine. The file is a gif that's equivalent to a 'play' button, and they made it a central part of their website and it's ass big gif (260x260+).

The HTML for the gif on their page is,

This is the traffic that was sent to the gif (in a little over 4 days),
Successful requests: 61,396 (61,194)
Average successful requests per day: 5,661 (8,741)

Currently I'm thinking,
-Modify the gif at the beginning of the websites peak hours
-Make sure the admins aren't logged on (it's a forum type page)
-Make a gif to best cater the demographic and ask the user's seeing the gif to type in the url of an offer that would interest them. (The demographic loves online RPG gaming and is mostly males of the age 18-24.)

Any thoughts? :D
 


Check the whois for the site and make it so that gifs can parse php on your server. Then have a geo-ip script which displays the normal image when its near the owners location, and something else otherwise.

very clever. You can also cookie stuff the gif or do a redirect to your LP :P

you can setup htaccess to serve a php file as the gif then run a script when it's accessed that does stuff then serves up the image
