ive been deeply involved in an industry (as a consumer) for many years. the industry is a pretty tight knit community of users of the industrys products. also, this niche is relatively untapped as far as affiliate marketing goes.

the industry centers around one product that has a ton of expansion options. there are only a couple makers of this product and its add ons. many consumers in this industry go about making there own instead of using one that the existing companies are putting out, but this is a ton of work. there are also some free options, but they really are not up to par and nobody really likes them.

for 2 years now, ive been making my own product for this industry. for the last year ive been using it with my own little group within the industry. its working great and is well loved. i did not design it with the intention of making it public, but i think its time to make it available to others. i think ill keep the core product free, and maybe in the future ill charge for add ons or something, im not sure. with it being free though, and high quality, i think i can get a good amount of traffic. i want to monetize this project through various affiliate marketing strategies.

i want to have a static website where i offer the product and its add ons. there is a ton of content, and it could fill a website easily.

i want to have a wordpress blog where i write articles about the industry, my specific product, and the best ways to go about creating different parts of your own similar product.

i want to host a forum with topics that are based on the industry, topics for my own specific product, and topics related to making your own product of this type.

my question is this... from an seo and affiliate marketing point of view, would it be better to place these 3 sites in one domain, or have them in seperate domains. either way, everyone would know they are connected, and they would link to each other anyways. im wondering what the pros and cons would be of putting them in the same domain, or each in there own. any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

tldr; If it's a brand, use one domain that houses the product, blog, and forum, easier for everyone.

If it's one brand, everything should be one domain, that way visitors, customers, and clients aren't confused as to what domain url they should go to.

The SEO benefit you are attempting to get by interlinking is going to be negated at some level once search engines discover you own all 3. If you are trying to take over the rankings of the top 10 for a particular keyword their policy is to give you a maximum of 2 positions, unless it's YOUR brand as the keyword.

Affiliate, most affiliates would prefer to point their affiliate links to the "official" site for consumer trust and confidence.

What you can do is create a 2nd brand and try to compete with yourself, but that should be considered well down the line once you've established your first brand.
