My .com I want is taken for Print Advertising

I've purchased .net domains plenty of times and have had decent success with them. Shouldn't be too much of a problem unless the guy with the .com is doing the same thing you are.

This is for print? I have no experience with print, but I'm assuming you'll want to make it as easy as possible for people to remember your URL. I'd try and get a .com

What he said. If you do go with a .net be sure and brand the extension with the domain. If this is a long term commitment then definitely go for the .com even if you pay a pretty penny. In a couple of years you will be glad that you did. Besides you can write it off as a business expense / advertising expense.

.com and make it easy to remember. A lot of times people will see it and automatically think .com even though .net is clearly displayed.

There's a reason why pokerstars.net is the play-for-nothing site starring professional athletes and pokerstars.com is the money site

You have a little bit better chance if your visitors understand that address bars are for URLs and not search terms. But even then, if you advertise your brand as pokersite.net, some will still type in www.pokersite.net.com

On a side note, I have heard people refer to domains as wwwdotcoms. The only way you are gonna get them to your site is through a link.

get the .com, .net, .org and wwwdomain.com, if you're spending any serious loot. people are really fucking stupid.

If it's going to be type-in traffic, then I'd find a .com just to be safe.

I've done it myself a few times, people just don't remember the TLD when seeing an ad and just assume its a .com

I have done print advertising and if you are going to spend a few thousand on print like I did then get the .com, .net, .info, .org, and other country extension if possible. If you are going to be serious about it and going for branding (such as your print advertising) then go all the way or don't do it at all.
