Hi Folks.

We have a website for a town in the Dominican Republic called Sosúa.
http://www.sosuadomrep.com
It was online for 3 years, off since May 08 and now back online since end November 08.

The site aims to bring information about the businesses in Sosúa from Hotels, Bars, restaurants, Tour companies etc.

Content needs to be added and we aim to add a new page each day to the different categories we list.

We have added Google Adsense to the site and wondered if any pro's would take a peek and see if we are on the right track.

We are a family who started this site as a hobby but would now like to expand the site somewhat and hopefully turn the tide so that it earns some revenue.

We are adding google ads to our non paying advertiser pages.

The pages that have paid advertising do not have google ads apart from the ads on the top bar.

Look forward to your input.

Oh yes, originally the site attracted 2-3000 visitors a week.
Hits are right down at present to less than 30 a day due to site being offline for 6 months.

1.Get GIMP, redo banner.
2. Hello 1995, get rid of the gif animations.
3.Make the main picture with the beach house higher resolution (looks shitty and pixelated)
4.Reduce the footer to sections like -about us- copyright blabla -contact us-
5. redo all your links to seperate the words by "-" (no quotes, duh)
ex:  Tour Operators in Sosua = http://www.sosuadomrep.com/tour-operators.htm
6. people instincively click on left handed menu's and you got ads there when your main menu is all the way on the right. I'd switch these around, don't dick your customers around.

Zimok,

Just the sort of critism I was hoping for.

Changing links as we speak.
I'm dumb but what does the - between words do? Is there a purpose other than making the words more visibly independant of each other?

Yep all cool this end. Noted ;)

People are assholes here, especially new people trying to fit in. I'm still not sure why people are complete dicks to people with legitimate questions who are trying to learn though.

It helps the SE recognize the difference between keywords. A good place to start would be FAQ: Search Engine Optimization - SitePoint Forums to learn some basic SEO and then you can come back with question that might not get you flamed right off the bat, well scratch that, people are going to be dicks no matter what.

For one, they are visually easier to recognize - for humans.
For two, Google sees - as a word seperator, thus it does not have to figure out where to seperate itself. Do not use _ because google will concatenate words seperated by _

It is a hazing thing.

We are assholes to filter out the weak and those filled with nothing but spam.

Ever wonder why this place is so much better than DP?
That is the reason.

Also contact Red Virus for social media link building.

Very good service, highly recommended.
