Does what it says on the tin. I was in your position once and i know how much time can be wasted chasing after one piece of information.. Ask me anything about building sites or becoming a web developer. Anything goes!!! Do your worst! On site SEO, HTML, CSS Javascript....

Bored and here to help! >_<

I am looking for a good source about internal linking. I have seen many successful web sites cross link pages
home page Home Page
catagory A Catagory B
topic A Topic B

Linking from topic A to Topic B
I thought conventional wisdom was to link from Topic A to Category A and Home page

At the end of the day I am looking for a well informed source to read about this topic and best practices

If you read it somwhere.. then somone else is doing it.,.. Be original!! I would not say that that is a topic worth a lot of time.

Ok well you are asking me for information on the subject... all i would do is google it! What the fuck am i suppoused to say?? I am saying .. focus your efforts elsewhere. That is my answer. Internal linking is neither here nore there in the grand scheme of things.... just do it as you see fit and as will benefit the users of your site. Worry about something else!

How would you convert a DB website with various URL types, like a Gallery or Arcade, into wordpress and not lose any of the URL structure..

Would you create new Permalink structure and redirect all the old ones using htaccess?
I am planning to convert a couple 1000 page sites into WP without much pain.

Thanks

What services do you use to create and manage your projects and tasks?

To be honest, at the moment it's all in my head. i have never used project management software though it's probably a good idea! ha.. Sorry, juts try a few out i guess!!

That is a tricky one. In general, when doing this the best way to to actually keep the url strucure... I am presuming that that would not be possible so yeah, .htacess and hope for the best! I would spend a bit of time on some SEO too to give you the best chance of a drop in rankings...

That said, ideally look in to wordpress URL structures and see if you can work it....

I think it would be helpful to people new to building sites if you covered your general workflow from site idea to initial building to launching to analytics setup

One thing that i do use for productivity is a TO DO list (on paper). Write every job down, break it in to tasks etc. Out if interest... when you tick an item off, have the list on your desk and stand over it looking down. Some psycological bullshit but ot works! ha.

When i get time that would be a good idea, yeah for sure! For now i just wanted to maybe help a few noobs with general web dev advice etc...... and get my brain ticking over! I may get something down soon.As i said tho.. i have only built a few sites for myself and they are kind of on he back burner for now i have just set myself up self emloyed so that is taking my time up.

This is an inaccurate statement. Internal linking is a big part of information architecture. Big sites often have keyword cannibalization issues partly due to poor internal linking practices.
