Page Rank and Traffic

Ok, stupid NOOB question coming right up...

What is the relationship between Page Rank and Traffic? I guess I've always assumed that the higher the page rank the more traffic a site must get, but is that actually the case?

That's not always the case. I've seen plenty of page rank 3 sites with alexa ranks in the 300,000's and lots of page rank 5 to 6's ranked less than a million. One of my sites has a page rank site of 3, I get 500 uniques a day, more than half from search traffic. A buddy of mine has a page rank of 5 and he's lucky to see 20 or 30 uniques a day.

PR is an index score assigned by Google to a site based on inbound links and a few other bits. While their is a correlation the increase traffic is not because of the PR but rather the promotion done to the site.

PR is a score not a factor therefore it has no actual impact on traffic.

Their are plenty of High PR sites with almost no traffic and plenty of PR 0 or 1 with plenty of traffic. Unless you are selling links or the domain ignore PR and just get on with attracting the traffic, you will find your PR will increase anyway.

PageRank is like the marks given by the Google through quality of backlinks you have. Traffic is nothing but the no. of users visiting your site.
