Hello,

I started a blog a few days ago but I seem to be out of luck(or my blog sucks), I have made a rather long post everyday but I have not being commented yet. I put a hit counter and it says that I've had 50 visitors but I only have one comment and nobody is clicking on my ads. What can I do to change this ?

My blog is Linux Strategies

Any advice is appreciated :)

50 visitors = nothing.
My old blog received 200-300 visitors a day and I only got like 1-2 comments a day. Just keep blogging. Blogging isn't an instant cash cow, it takes time but if your posts are good quality you will make some cash etc.

Hello,

I started a blog a few days ago

A few days? Fuck. Give it some time to grow. You can't just throw a blog up and expect people to start sucking your dick over it. :love-smiley-083:

You sound like a complete fuckin noob. If you want to improve your blog, you better start reading WickedFire. The more you read, the more you'll learn.

LOL, if you only started it a few days ago, and are getting 50 visitors maybe you need to ask your mom and your friends to comment as well??

First of all, 50 uniques in a few days is good.

That said, here are the things I would change:

- Get a better design.
- Do not design your header in paint or word (text). It's also way too big..
- Do not use a counter where the text is represented in fire.. Do not use a counter at all.
- Get a real domain and wordpress.

For one, what the fuck is that? I can think of about 10 others, and I use Windows.
List of Linux distributions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
List of Linux distributions - LQWiki
Read up first.

Number 2, drop your link everywhere, a few days is gonna do nothing. You gotta get a shitload of links then get search engine traffic, or write some really good link baits, controversial. Or a top 10 list and get it on digg and get it dugg to the craphouse, there is numberous digg rings around the place.

Drop links in forums as well, here is 2 that are great resources, which means good to drop links in :)

Linux Forums - Where People Come For Linux Help !
LinuxQuestions.org - where Linux users come for help

That's the point so when people do realize it they can email me, that way they get active with the blog :)

I have a few Diggs and I did post my blog on quite a few forums :D
Anything else ?

Thanks

It's hard to write a blog on a topic you know nothing about, and it's pretty clear you know nothing about linux. For one, "Redhat" is not an operating system, it's a company. Redhat, the company, sells a product called "Redhat Enterprise Linux 3|4|5"

Also, your blog has no content, while your site has all these "long" posts none of them have to do with linux. Look around on the internet for "ubuntu blog" or "linux blog" to see what real content is like.

Your site header sucks and change the adsense background color to something that matches the background.

If you want a decent domain name, I know the guy who owns "TheLinuxBlog.com". He'll sell it to you for $200.

Hi,

First post here but I just had to reply on this one.

If you want to look the part on the subject of Linux (Open Source) start calling them (RedHat, Suse et al) distributions and not operating systems. :)

Your Custom logo is not in line with the rest of the width of the blog. Not on Firefox running on Linux anyway.

Your last blog is about people should click on the google ads, isn't that against the google TOS? Be carefull about that, they probably have some algo that searches for that, knowing google. :)

Good luck on the Forum you like to start.

Thought I start with my first post helping someone.

Do with it wat you want.

Thank You for your comment, I very much appreciate it :)
About the Adsense TOS, well I am not exactly telling the viewer to click on it I am just stating its purpose which might cause them to click :D

Hi,

Me again, I've read your blog (it's not a forum yet) and am wondering what kind of crowd you want to serve?

You state that you did an analysis and found that there is no good support in the Open Source world. I don't know how long that analysis took you but, myself roaming the Open Source world since about the Linux kernel was pre 1.0, I can tell you that support is overall very good.

Doing a google on Linux forums I get Linux Forum - Index
Linux Forums - Where People Come For Linux Help !
and LinuxQuestions.org - where Linux users come for help
as the first 3 results. That's what your competing with. Not to bash you or anything, just showing you. As I said I'm here to help all I can.

And that's only for Linux, if you search for a specific distro you'll find that there is a lot of support.

What kind of affiliates are you going for? Seeing this is the affiliate section of WF.

We run an Open Source related news site for about 4 years now and have adsense on it and can tell you that only since this last year the click price is rising a bit. It's not a money making market yet but that is probably because where very local with our language, non English.

Reading your blog, and again just telling you what I see, as someone that works with Open Source on a daily basis, makes me want to hit the back button because it is not telling me anything but the fact that you don't know what your talking about. So I would say, read up on the subject or get someone to write a bunch of content for you.

Hope this helps, and again good luck with the project.

Ok, I'm going to mix up some criticisms and suggestions.

1. Your hit counter is an abortion. Lose it.
2. Think about who you're trying to attract to this blog. Web entrepreneurs? Forum owners? Hardcore Linux users? Hardcore linux users are probably not sitting around tearing sheets off their day calendar waiting for a new support forum. And they're not going to care about, read, or comment on your process of selecting a domain name for your site.
3. Install widgets from MyBlogLog and BumpZee. Remove the "nofollow" from your comments template and join the No Nofollow group on BumpZee.
4. Your header is not custom logo. Don't call it one.
5. Don't expect comments if you are not commenting on others' blogs. Since you're new and in a techie niche, assume you need to leave 20 quality comments on others' blogs to get one on yours.
6. If you still think that it's worth it to blog this project instead of just putting that time into the project itself, then spend the few bucks and get your own domain. Then get a decent theme.

I was going to say pretty much what dogfighter just said. (Cheers for Bumpzee nofollow group tip :D)

You want good free tracking - try google analytics, ditch the counter.

If you don't know the subject well enough to write about it maybe consider buying some content.

dude i only get 17 a day max and I call that fucking awesome :D

then again i just started it and have never promoted it except in my sig in this forum.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Dogfighter knows what he's talking about. Take his advice.

Well, maybe the Forums do exist but they are not really advertised, or at least not enough, I think

I've changed the Looks of the Forum, any more suggestions ?

Thanks

Honestly, your content sucks.

There is no pull, no angle, no hook.

If you need content, I'd suggest you get a 'linux for dummies' book and read up on it.

Linux is open-source.
If you're planning to sell something, good luck.

If someone's going to look for linux info, they'd go to a high authority forum/blog.

Unless you're some sort of Linux celeb, I don't see how you can get much traffic.

---
On the other hand, you might be successful with a linux idiot blog.

You might like to show how even an idiot could install linux on his computer.
That way you could teach other idiots how to install linux, and do it in a step-by-step manner.

Do you even use linux?
I don't think you do.

You don't have enough content to have adsense serve meaningful ads.
I'm seeing "foreign exchange training" ads there.

It likely has to do with the fact that you can't even spell "problem" in the title of this thread.

Since you're asking yes I am a Linux User, I use Ubuntu, anyway thanks for telling me that my blog sucks and that I'm an idiot :repuke:
But let me just say that someone who actually writes that isn't a smartass either because if you were smarter than me you would of given me "actual" advice and yes that means that I don't think that your HowTo's are an actual idea :xomunch:

Thanks anyway

I don't think he was calling you an idiot he was giving you a niche for a blog. I'm sorry you use Ubuntu, that could be your problem. Something I think would be worth reading is a newer linux user jumping straight to Gentoo or Slackware (gentoo FTW!) and blogging about everything they learned. Of course you'd have to work hard to keep savvy linux users reading, but it might have a following for other Ubuntu linux users who want to go deeper. Check thelinuxblog.com for some examples what linux related content should look like...

Don't bite the hands trying to feed ya...

... because if you were smarter than me you would of given me "actual" advice...

He did. You just don't want to see it. You were too busy working on a snippy reply...

... and yes that means that I don't think that your HowTo's are an actual idea

I think they are what you need. General ideas to move you along, not "here is exactly what you should do" since giving that to you would prevent you LEARNING, which is what this site is all about!

... Thanks anyway

You are welcome.
