Problem with Robots caching my sitemap

Hey All,

I have a few sites where when you google for my keywords the listing that comes up is my ugly sitemap.xml page and not the page that contains the content to which the sitemap points.

I think the solution is that I want the sitemap to be spidered but not cached.

Does this sound right? How should I go about fixing this?

Robots.txt? Meta tag ?

I am getting tonnes of bounces from people finding my sitemap rather than the page with the content the sitemap points to.

Is your sitemap in XML or HTML?

Can you give us a URL, please? Anyway, try uploading a compressed sitemap, that is: sitemap.xml.gz. Browsers will not be able to open them as web pages.
