Question about EPN

I have been hearing a lot of talk about being required to let your visitors know the listings on your site are from ebay and that, when clicked, the user will be taken to ebay.

Before last week, I never heard of such a thing.

I ask on the phpbay forums, and get a semi-clear response saying it needs to be done.

I email EPN support with the question

Recently, I began talking to more people using the same application and
a statement has risen numerous times. That statement is that you
(publisher) are required to make the visitors to your site aware that
all listing on said website are from ebay and that clicking a listing
will take them(visitor) to ebay. Also, I've been told this information
needs to be prominently displayed.
I have nothing against this, but to be honest I have not been doing this
(I can't find anything in the manual regarding this issue either). I
would like to know if this is, indeed a requirement. If it is, I will
take all necessary actions to comply to the fullest extent. On a related
note, if this is the case (displaying information to users regarding
links/listings taking them to ebay) would a disclaimer in the footer of
each page on my websites be sufficient?

Please ensure that all of your links to eBay properties are clearly
marked. It must be clear to the users who are clicking on your links
that they will be taken to an eBay site or eBay auction. Please mark it
clearly on each pages of your websites.

So, point made, you need to be telling your visitors that clicking on one of the links will take them to ebay.

Still, my question about putting information in the footer, goes unanswered.

They say "please mark it clearly on each page of your website"

Now, to me, I think the easiest way is just editing footer.php

Any thoughts?

I would put at the footer "All items displayed on this page are brought to you by ebay. Clicking on an item will take you to Ebay.com where then you can make the transaction"

Wow, that stellar EPN support really shines, doesn't it?

Personally, I wouldn't stick it in the footer, because presumably your site has plenty of pages without ebay auctions listed.

I haven't heard anything along these lines, but I haven't been using EPN too much lately. I don't think you'll have to put in big bold letters at the top of the page "OMG THESE LINKS WILL TAKE YOU TO EBAY." If you're concerned, just make a quick note something along the lines of "ebay auctions we suggest."

I wish they would link to some example sites.

I've done this on a couple of sites (the ones that may not look obviously like ebay) by putting it in the footer and the others where it is so obvious that it's an ebay link, I have left it alone.

Don't remember where I saw it, but some EPN blog or forum commenter proclaimed he was getting plenty of love with his T-shirt site: defunkd(.)com

He's also an eBay Powerseller though, so that link might not be of much help. I did see where eBay is encouraging people to link their sellers account with their EPN account and that certain ass lappers would get their own account manager. I think this guy might be one of them.
