Question about transferring domains from Godaddy...

I've read that Godaddy won't allow you to transfer "private" domains, so how do you get your domains to another registrar?

I've got a lot of domains stored up, but they are set to expire over the next few months. I don't want to let them go, only to have to wait 2-3 months time to pick them back up again (Godaddy and their stupid redemption and deletion periods). So, could someone tell me my options, if you know of any?

I know that DomainsByProxy manages their domain privacy, but of course, I don't have any of that info. And, for the life of me, I'm unable to get it. Anyway, what I thought that I could do is just make a new godaddy account, and push the domains over to that one, then transfer them out to Name?

Is that even possible? Is there a way to remove the domain privacy without having to access DomainsByProxy?

You have to sign in to DomainsByProxy and cancel the private registration before you can transfer them out. It's a pain.

I think your DomainsByProxy login info might be the same as your regular GoDaddy account, but I'm not sure. Either, way, you should be able to do a password reminder to get the info.

Or just call up GoDaddy and someone will help you. And then try to sell you a bunch of bullshit you don't need.

Yea, I've tried to use the Godaddy info for the DomainsByProxy, and I've had the Godaddy account so long that my email is no longer the same as when I originally signed up, so there's that problem.

Any workaround for this?

Domains by Proxy will have sent you your login details when the account was opened for you. Do you not have this saved somewhere?

You can log into your GoDaddy account I assume? I would update your email there and then call them for assistance if you can't figure out the Domains by Proxy part of the problem.

The problem is that I've had the Godaddy account for years. I updated my email once, and of course, it's not the same as the original I'd used when buying domains. So, for that reason, I don't have the DomainsByProxy info, and GoDaddy doesn't give any assistance for them.

Keep in mind too that GoDaddy tends to send out those "ICAAN says it's time to update all of your domain registration information!" emails about 4-5 times a year at least -this makes your domain untransferrable for 60 days if you change ANYTHING.

God I hate those fuckers. I'm in the process of moving everything out....

I think I need to have a strong drink now. I have an old domain stuck on Godaddy that I need to transfer out so I can revamp it. Thanks for the details about Godaddy's suckage - I knew it was deep, but didn't realize it was this deep.
