I am thinking about buying a vBulletin license. I have a few questions though:

- I want guests to be able to post on the message board without having to register. In fact, I want to disable the registration process completely. This way anyone can post without registering and creating a username, password, or confirming their email address, etc.

- I only want to have one or two threads in the entire forum. I want to be the only person who can create threads. Guests should only be able to respond to threads that I created.

- I want to be able to manually approve each post that a guest makes, to avoid spam and other malicious content.

If I buy the license, are all of the above possible? And, what is the level of difficulty involved in setting the forum up this way? Is there a cheaper (or even a free) alternative that will make the above possible?

Thanks.

- yes u can allow posting without registration but will also cause lots of spam bots to drop by at the same time.

- yes u can state that no one can create threads but you, its all under permissions

- i'm not 100% sure as i havent tried it yet, but you should be able to approve the posts before it showing - kinda like how it happens here when newbies post links.

if you want to run a forum with only a few threads you might be better off like swifty mentioned and just setup a blog with multi-posts shown on the front page?

in terms of setting up, if you know how to manually install wordpress by uploading the files and setting up MySQL databases and logins, u'll be fine

Thanks for the replies.... yeah that makes more sense. I guess wordpress.com would be best for this?

If you already have your own hosting, then get yourself a domain for about 8 or 9 dollars, and install wordpress on it. From wordpress.org
