Does having a banner ad linking to your site paid to be placed on a high PR site increase your PR the same way a link simply added to the site would?

Thanks!

good question... i have no idea! :D

but.. i do have to say that text links are better for SEO purposes. anchor text from a high pr site will make you rank for that term :O!!!

Thanks... but what is the difference between an image that is linked from the site and a text link? Both use the same a href=http://site>Text</a , right? sorry, confused about that.

anyone know for sure? I was thinking about buying some ad space on a high PR site, and would like to know.

I'm pretty sure a direct link is a direct link, whether it's text or banner.

As long as your link isn't cloaked/masked/redirected in any way by the site you're buying the link on, it should count for PR.

That's what I was hoping - I know the link from the site is only temp as long as you are paying for the ad and the link is up and running- but at least it would boost my rank in the SERPs and hopefully gain me some traffic in the long run.

I would guess so... as long as google happens to do a PR update during the time while you're being linked from these high PR sites... then some of the PR should be passed onto your site. But, don't quote me on that. It's just a guess.

The previous post is right... pageRank doesn't mean squat. Hopefully the banner will increase your traffic by initiating click thru's. It then becomes your responsibility to convert them into paying customers.

PR doesn't matter. PR doesn't pay the rent. Traffic and conversion matter.

I have sites with ZERO PR that make money. I have sites with high PR that make much less.

Awesome. Yeah. Well, thanks for your input, but that's not what we were talking about, dipshit. Next time we need to know how you feel about PR, we'll be sure to give you a call.

Nice spam in your sig.

thanks - I know that about PR...I was more interested in seeing if having a paid for banner link on a high PR site would increase your rankings in the SERPS the same way a permanent text link would from the same site (for as long as your banner is being shown at least...)

I wanted to see if buying a bunch of cheaper text links on some high PR sites would boost my traffic not only by click thus, but also via the SERPs... might be worth the cash if I can't get some organic links from said sites.
