So here lately I've been spending a lot of time writing content for my blog.

A lot of top tens, how to's, etc etc.
So I do a lot of researching in general.

I've found that it's much easier for me to find articles that people love in my niche and just completely re-write them. While also adding in my own tips/tricks.

Is this a bad idea? To have the exact top ten as a competitor but just in different words?

I'm sure it's frowned upon but I just keep going back to the "Find out what your competitors are doing and do it better" Which is what I'm making sure is happening.

Thanks for any input.

If it weren't OK a lot of blogs and news sites would be out of business with Google.

I'm even having stuff in other languages re-written paying almost nothing for it and no issues thus far.

In terms of legality and Google ranking, what you're doing is fine. You're not going to get into any trouble.

But depending on what direction you want to take your blog, what kind of following you want to have, you might want to start creating a foundation of unique content. You can use others' ideas - like top 10 lists, etc. - but make them your own. Make your own Top 10, or make it a Top 5 or Top 20.

Use your competitors for ideas and inspiration - that'll work out in the long term a lot better for you. If they're not direct competitors, I like to link to an article of theirs if I really liked it. And I'll shoot them an email letting them know that I did. I've gotten so much of my traffic from guest posts and other sites linking back to me because I did the same. We end up sharing our audiences and promoting each other.

That won't work as well if they look at your site and see that you copied what they have on theirs.
