Selling Email addresses on Ebay..

So I see lots of free email accounts being sold on ebay (most have to do w/ Ipod, etc) right now. Why would anyone even bother selling any of these? The listing on ebay costs more than what the emails typically go for (like .01 - .99 cents).

I was thinking that they must load the email box w/ tons of affiliate email offers - or maybe just a few emails in the inbox w/ something like "shhh- don't tell anyone my secret!". I guess you have a chance of getting someone to send in a zip submit or something... but since most of the emails seem to be aimed at spammers looking for 'official' sounding email titles, you would think the CTR on any emails in the inbox would be low...

Any other ideas?
 


I've also seen emails for things like tmx elmo, ps3, etc go for anywhere from 50-1000+ dollars. So if you sell some for nothing or next to nothing it can easily be compensated for by one or two big sells. After I saw ps3 emails go for shitloads I went out and squatted some ps4 emails but unfortunately I have to login every few months to keep them going but hopefully there will be a ps4 and I'll make some dough in a few years. I think a lot of the buyers are ebay merchants and the like who think having emails like nintendo.wii-powerseller@hotmail.com makes them look professional. As for affiliate links and such well that'd be an interesting idea but I have seen some of the email accounts being advertised as unused so I don't think that's it.

That's probably true but still if you sold one addy for a grand that'd make up for whatever time and tiny overhead that you have in ebay listing fees. SOme idiots also may think they are buying a PS3 not the email address even though all the auctions I've seen are clearly labeled. The other thing is that selling them violates the TOS, so I wonder if yahoo, hotmail etc monitor the auctions and then delete the accounts. If that happened after someone bought one you could have some angry buyers...
