Hello guys! I am just wondering if hosting server location can have a negative impact on Google website ranking positions? If, for example, my forum is planned to be in the Russian language with .com domain extension and hosted on the US server? I am wondering if a website will be found by Russian requests in google.com.ua and google.com.ru searching engines? What are your opinions about this? Thanks in advance!

If you want your site to rank well in the Russian Google, then your best bet is to host it on a box in Russia, and ideally have a russian TLD. If you definitely want to have a .com, then host it on a Russian box, and get a decent amount of backlinks from russian sites. Sign up at the russian version of wordpress et al and point some links in from there.

I develop my site in Peru, I host it in the US, and I still rank quite well in my target market, which is Latin America and Spain. From my experience, where you host doesn't matter at all.

If you want to rank well within a specific country location you're better off having your hosting location and using a matching domain extension of the country location you're optimizing for.

This question has been answered in the Motherfucking SEO thread as well.
