Should I start building a mailing list from the beginning?

hi,
well I'm planning to set up a blog, maybe a couple of 'em,
and I've been into doubts about when should I start building my own mailing list?
Is it better to start it when I've already established a couple of hundreds of subscribers?
or should I start it from the very first moment?

I haven't done any blogging yet and this would be my first experience with it,
so excuse me if my question sounds foolish : )

emm maybe u could suggest me of any good mailing list & autoresponder services? I've heard about Aweber and GetRespond but I'd like to hear more suggestions from u : )

@Shawns - Thanks for the props. Those can be helpful to OP. The building the list part i've found to be quite easy. Monetizing it has not yet been all that easy. I am in a niche though with not that many offers for that case study.
