Squidoo.com as a marketing tool?

Anyone use www.squidoo.com as a way to generate traffic. They are ranked about 2,500 by Alexa. I read over it quick but bascially anyone can write about a topic in a (lens) and Squidoo makes money from Adsense/Affiliate links. But you can make 50% of the profit too.

Curious if anyone knows anything more about this. I noticed people were using their own affiliate links in their lenses. I was under the impression all affiliate links would be under squidoo's ID.

Might be a site to look into for free traffic at the least.

But seriously, I have had some good success with getting squidoos to rank for some competitive terms. I just load it up with semi-original content and tons of links pointing back to my main site. Oh and I never made any money from donations or anything else directly from the Squidoo.

The day it opened I set up a couple of lenses to try it out, then forgot about it. About a month or two later I got a paypal payment from them for 11 cents.

Since then they have upped their minimum payout threshold to $10.

Did you try posting some of your own affiliate links or does Squidoo convert them all to their own affiliate links. I noticed with the poker affiliates people have their own affiliate links, but it seems stupid for Squidoo to allow that.

Hehe, I just found out about Squidoo on one of Godin's video presentations (the Google one). So I used tried it, the only reason I am though is because it's another source to build PR to link to any other sites of mine or any future sights.

But anyways, it has some good content, very specific content too like "how to do this..." and stuff, check it out. I like it.

I setup straight links for link building. I haven't done anything with affiliate marketing and Squidoo. I wouldn't think Squidoo converts the affiliate links.
