Hello,

This is my first post on this forum!

I’m a Director of a company that allows visitors of our site to subscribe to receive premium Horoscope/Astrology-based content, through recurring payments on their credit card. Our site is in the final stages of construction and will be launching next month.

We are very keen to setup an affiliate-system for our site, where we would reward our affiliates by Pay-Per-Action (PPA), namely when they referred a visitor to our site who converted into a paying subscriber.

We have been doing some initial research over the past week (on this and other sites), but still had a few questions regarding setting up a suitable affiliate system.

Please excuse my ignorance on anything asked below - any advice will be greatly appreciated

1) Considering our business is subscription-based, would most affiliates prefer a one-off payment for new subscriptions, or would they rather an on-going percentage (%) of each successful payment?

What makes this a little more complicated is that once the customers signs up for the first time, the periodic payments are automatically made by our system and do not require the customer to re-visit our site to re-request further usage of our service. So while this is good for us, the on-going percent (%) of payments approach may not be compatible because I’m unsure if our Affiliate Network(s) could keep track of future payments processed this way?

It may just be easier for us to give our affiliates a one-off payment.

2) Which Affiliate Network(s) would you recommend for maximum exposure of our site to affiliates? Should we be using more than one Affiliate Network for best results?

Our service will be available in 200 countries, 10 currencies and in 8 major launguages, so it really doesn’t have to be a country-dependent Affiliate Network. Having said that, our biggest market by far is USA.

3) We were considering creating our own internal affiliate system. This would allow affiliates to sign up directly through us, meaning we could create a very close relationship with each of our publishers and would mean they wouldn’t have to deal with a 3rd party Affiliate Network.

It would also allow us to easily keep track of all successful/failed payments of referred customers, meaning we wouldn’t have problem mentioned in number (1) above if we wish to pay an on-going percentage (%) of our revenue to our Affiliates/Publishers.

My only concern with this, is if Affiliates/Publishers would trust an internal system over an established Affiliate Network?

Any other thoughts on this approach?

4) Even if 3rd party Affiliate Network(s) were used, is it normal practice for Merchants to manually contact website owners to encourage them to become Affiliates/Publishers of their service?

5) After the opening months of our service, we are seeking 5,000+ visitors to our site a day through Affiliate-marketing alone.

Considering our business is in the Astrology/Horoscope industry; If we signed up to multiple Affiliate Networks & also made a considerable effort each day to attract new Affiliates/Publishers, do you think this number (5,000 visitors / day) is achievable?

Thank you very much for your time!
