Hi there although I am new to making money online i've dedicated many MANY hours of research on different topics and different routes on how people started. One seemingly great piece of advice is to work on only 1 thing at a time so my question is what is a good campaign/project to start for learning just as well as turning a profit.

I have looked alot into affiliate marketing(AboveAllOffers), A Microniche blog, or a directory for my local area. I am willing to look into something new to if anyone can suggest a better starting point for me to put my time into. I can put 5hours a day into work and $300 to invest.

There are many services like blog commenting, social media promotions and many. this will not require much income and will be easy to execute as a beginner,, but still needs little effort to get succeed,

Ok thanks for the feedback. I currently work a 40hr a week minimum wage job at one of the biggest gambling companys in the US so I decided to email the lead marketer today to see if there was a spot on their online marketing team. I figure it would be a great way to pickup the skillset I require to venture out of my own or who knows it may turn into a full time job marketing for this company.

#1 Don't do what this guy^^^ did.

#2 Getting bogged down in research is almost as bad as jumping from idea to idea constantly. Pick an idea, and follow that idea as far as you can. There's more to be learned from failing over and over again while moving in one direction than from failing at a bunch of different things that are unrelated.

You'll learn more from an hour of doing than you will from 10 hours of reading. Especially if you've already spent some time reading.

The option to market online for my company is a long shot but id just figure I should go for it anyways. My main focus has been around a blog but I cannot seem to find any related offers or any real product that directly relates to my niche. It is more of a process so I don't know if I should still follow through will starting the blog when I cant even find a direct way to monetize it. Do you guys think I should still stick to it or start with something that offers a product?

From what you have listed, your local directory seems more realistic for a n00b. There even are some plugins for Wordpress so you can make it with no much hassle. Of course, it depends on what kind of area it is. With NY, you have no chance.

With $300 I would pick a niche you really enjoy in real life, build a site, get your brand sorted, and start looking for problems people have in your niche.

When you figure out common problems, figure out who's already covered solutions - then piggy back off of that content to make it:

1. More in depth
2. Prettier
3. More interactive
4. More types of media

Ideally, do all 4. Then reach out to everyone and every community that you know would be interested and share it with them.

Get a list going, and build up traffic and community - then let the data that rolls in tell you how to monetize.

Good luck!

I think its so hard to start from the beginning for the 1st time, establish a traffic source and an offer that relates to it would have to be step 1.

I take the opposite site to most people, dont worry about something that you are passionate about or want to spend time looking into product wise. Follow the money

I second this.

You don't need to read anything else. And we are being serious.

I was also in your position a long time ago. I was do damn worried about starting something and it not working. I kept jumping around from idea to idea - when in reality, if I would of just stuck with my first basic idea, right now I'd be exactly where I want to be if not further.

You're trying to jump into the field with a million dollar idea your first go around. That's not what you should be looking at.

Seriously, start with any niche! Preferably something you at least know about.

Do not be afraid to fail, champions are made during practice - not during the game.

Start with this first:
Find a niche.
Find a hosting.
Pick a clean domain.
Install wordpress
Find a nice responsive theme you like.
Start building it to your liking.
Write good content and they will come!
After you have traffic, THEN you can worry about
monetizing and making $$ off it.

Hosting = $10-$30/month
Domain= $10-$20
You don't need anything else right now.
