Hi All,

I have been researching IM for a long time now and have decided to move forward and start making some money. I am looking for some real life opinions and thoughts to help clarify some of my confusion. Below i will outline my plans...

Before i start, my website will be a similar to a blog with me frequently posting quality business information, ideas, opinions and views. I am not using a free service, like wordpress, because frankly, i feel my articles are of too much quality and would like the options/professionalism associated with owning your own domain name. Plus for $100/month, its not killing the bank. I have accumulated numerous different strategies to help generate traffic, backlinks and conversions and feel that i have a pretty good understanding. Im eager to get started and you appreciate any feedback/thoughts/improvments.

Need to register my Domain name and find Hosting
I have read through many forums and postings in regards to this but i still have some questions. Is there really that much of a difference between different hosts? i.e. how much will i be missing out on if i chose gatorhost compared to ipage?

The reason i ask is because there are 5 or more webhosting and domain registering sites that pretty much offer the EXACT same features and tools. I really just want the least expensive host for a small website that is planning for growth. Thoughts?

PS i heard keeping who you register you domain with and use to host you website different is a good idea?

A random article of the week?

I was thinking to include a separate page on my website which included a random article written by someone other than myself. I have lots of resources to professionals in science, botany, history, sales, music etc. Do you think these random articles will be useful? I understand that they are not really tied to my niche at all but i thought it may be something fun to help drive traffic?

Has anyone tried this?

Look forward to hearing from you all.

For a person who supposedly has been researching IM for a long time you have no idea what to really do.

The webhosting is personal preference (I don't think i know one that costs 100 a month...more like 100 a year) Personally Godaddy, hostgator and namecheap. Those are my favs to register domains.

As far as your web idea...it just sounds like a blog so you might as well just make a blog...hell you may as well just create a web community (frankly it sounds a lot like entrepreneur.com) . I don't think the random articles will do you much help. What's the point in going onto a website about business only to read an article about knitting or something like that? They would just to go to a better web community.

Also it doesn't matter how high you think your articles are, it depends on how other people think it is. Unless your articles bring you LOADS of traffic everyday then they are not exactly how quality.

Sorry about the typo. Can i correct it in my first thread? I meant to say 100/year not per month, i did not mean to offend you in any way. You seem upset with my post, it wasnt personal at all.

Also, in regards to my articles, i have passed them around my network and have gotten feedback from over 20 respected succcessful people in the business industry for a very good/informative read. Better than most of the stuff out there. Quality material is one of the key ingredients to drive traffic from what i read. Sorry if i gave you the impression that i have never wrote anything before and all i do is sit in my room and i just so happened to write this 100 word article on business and cant get over how amazing it is. Therefore, i am going to post it on this cool geocities website that me and my buddys designed....

Lastly, its the newb section, respond accordingly? Could you please answer my other questions that i originally asked, rather than skimming the top, i would appreciate it.

What goes into your personal preference decison?

FYI, my site would be similar to entrepeneur.com. I am in no way planning on competing with them, but i do see flaws in their site and why not give another business website resource option?

Not really. Shared hosts are pretty similar. Just read some reviews first, from webhostingtalk.com or whatever review site is big, to make sure you don't make a terrible decision. More well-known hosts such as HostGator, Dreamhost, A Small Orange, Just Host, etc. will give you mostly the same features and customer service quality.

I'd say that's a good idea. You don't want one company to have complete control of your website. Some less-scrupulous companies will jack up prices, then hold your domain hostage if you try to switch hosts.

Stick with Godaddy, Namecheap, or Moniker for a domain registrar and host with a place like HostGator as mentioned previously.
