Time on site down, Bounce rate up

I've had a site since 2008. For the past couple years it's had a bounce rate in the teens and the time on site was around 5 minutes.

In October it took a dive. bounce rate is now around 80% and time on site is less than 1 minute.

I haven't done anything different. Any ideas what's going on?
Thanks for helping a newbie!

Last time my bounce rate jumped drastically was when I had technical problems with site. Loading time was horrible, people were navigating away.

Maybe you get some non-targeted traffic from some source and visitors are simply not finding what they were looking for?

Have your rankings changed? Maybe you're getting less targeted traffic.

Have you removed something that kept people on the site longer?

Conversely, have you added something that would make people leave sooner? For example maybe you added a contact form which people fill out and leave right away expecting you to contact them etc.

Sometimes people find advertisements more attractive than what is on the site. So if you are using dynamic ads like adsense, then that would be one place to check. Maybe they had a new advertiser with a new banner ..

First of all check your Analytic reports to see with what keywords traffic is landing to your pages. Are those keywords relevant to the content of the website?

Second, check the loading time of the pages...

Three, is traffic coming to your website is your targeted traffic?
