I will be going to Germany in a few months, traveling from the US. I bought a sub-notebook for the trip, and trying to find a voltage converter that won't fry my equipment.

The reviews at Amazon are scary for all the transformers which they say are crap, and now I'm really concerned that I won't be able to do any work on my laptop while away. I read something about a 100-240V ac switch that can be flipped on many laptops that will correct the current, and all you need is an adapter. I purchased the HP 2133 mini notebook.

I'm so confused. Do any travelers have wisdom to impart?

U shouldnt need a converter, just a international plug. On my sony laptop the ac adapter actually says input voltage 110-220. And i think most countries uses like 220.

No kidding? I'm reading so much, it's hard to believe it's so simple. I'll probably take your advice re: the plug adapter after double-checking with HP. I once used a hair dryer in France that was blasting like crazy using just a plug adapter.

Yeah, most laptop power supplies can handle traveling. You just need the two prong plug converter which shouldn't cost you more than 6 bucks. Don't get one of those swiss army knife box converters either (all the plugs slide or fold out and they cost 20 or 30 dollars). They break eventually. Keep the solution low tech.
