Using a VPS vs. VM

I've run a VM and proxy setup before but found it to be a painful experience as each VM uses a lot of RAM and I could only have 1-2 up at a time before it would slow down my machine. VPS seems to consume less resources. Maybe 1/4 of what a VM does. Can someone confirm this?

Is it possible to get multiple IPs just as easily using a VPS as it is using the VM/proxy method?

Are there any advantages for running one over the other?

Yes VMS will take up much more memory, since you are running a virtual computer.

You could have multiple browsers open to different proxies, if all you are trying to accomplish is unique IPs. VMs are good when you want the entire host OS safe from viruses, and other programs watching what is going-on on your computer etc.

VMs are definitely easier to manage though, setting up proxies in browsers is kind of a PITA
