Has anyone tried this? I have never heard of anyone else doing it, but it seems like it would work. I live in a small town (about 6000 people) and we only have one newspaper, with not a lot of ads.
All the ads are local, so if I put in an affiliate ad they might think it was local and trust it more. I remember a while ago there always used to be a "Work from Home Assembling Crafts" ad in the employment section, but that had a phone number, not a website.

Any thoughts?

From experience I can tell you that I've had great success with certain types of ads in my local newspaper.

I've also spent money only to get sorry results.

You just have to test it out and see if it works in your area.

The only way to find out is to test, so test it out already.

Take a look here == Making Classified Ads Work For Affiliate Sales - Internet Marketing, SEO, and Make Money Online

and...

Spin some time reading this ==> $2,000 A Day Using Local Classifieds.

Thanks for that second article. I bounced right through it, the info was so scintillating.

I fall for that more here then I've ever fallen for fake links on any other website or forum. It's pretty sad.

Anyway, to stay on topic, it really does matter what you are promoting newspaper ads are less forgiving about that stuff then lets say facebook is since you can always stop facebook after a couple hours as opposed to dropping that amount on newspapers. If you do go the newspaper route, don't order one of those "Put your ad in 100 newspapers" try doing one or two first and seeing if it works before dropping something on a bulk deal.

Also, you might want to read the Terms & Conditions of your affiliate network to make sure that it is allowed. You don't want to shell out cash for a classified ad only to have your payments withheld by the network.

The problem with this model, from a network's standpoint, is that there is no way to check up on what kind of ad you are posting in the Classifieds. It could be, "Looking for Tech Writers, just write a review of Singlesnet by signing up at this link and email me your review!".

I'm not saying you will try to scam it, just do your homework to make sure it's allowed and you will get paid...

The point you are trying to make is sort of stupid. Most affiliates are cloaking anyway which means you may or may not be able to find their ads. So what would stop someone from doing the same thing online? Nothing.

The traffic would be purely organic and unique more so than most other methods. I highly doubt anyone would have a problem with it. not to mention i have never seen a network against it in their terms.

Which types did you have success with? Did you use the text ads like regular classifieds, or the big image ads?

i do quite a bit of real estate investing.

At one point in time I had an ad similar to this one run for 3 years straight.

9 - 15% returns secured with real estate.
Call xxx-xxx-xxxx. This is not a securities offering.

Small classifieds ads. Never really tried the image ad route..

Whether they are cloaking or not, the advertiser will not be happy with the leads, they know what affiliate ID they came from, they tell the network and we have to shut them down.

Agreed. But it just doesn't substantiate what makes an offline ad harder to monitor then an online one. If the quality is bad, its bad and will get complaints no matter where its being advertised.

I tried advertising make money online and get paid to offers through college newspapers a couple of years ago. I advertised for one month each in 10 major college newspapers. In the end, I spent about two grand and brought in about two grand in revenue. This was my first go at affiliate marketing, and I am amazed that I broke even.

I was thinking about trying this again with less scammy niches. There is profit in there somewhere.
