So I found a pretty good search term that gets 40k broad searches monthly. But exact is only like 600, I assume this isn't very good? I see the plural of the search is open, it does not appear to be *too* competitive, but in terms of getting my search result for #1 for the broad search results, is that what I should be going for? Or do I want to be looking at "exact" searches. I am pretty new to the whole SEO stuff, and have been browsing the forums and I can get things to rank pretty well for something like 5k broad searches at #1, but 40k is slightly different.
Obviously I know there is going to be time that I need to put in, I am fine with that. I don't just want to waste my time by looking at the wrong data first.
So my questions are:
1. Do you look at exact search data, or broad when picking a domain and going for a keyword?
2. Is 40k searches monthly for the broad keywords too many to be shooting for? I am willing to put time in developing unique content + links, but is that just too competitive? (there is only 1 adwords advertiser, they say the competition is low for that keyword, so maybe that means something?)
Thanks!
