is vbulletin a more powerful message board compared to SMF? I know one is paid and one is free. As far as speed which one is faster?

I have used both and switched all of my forums to vBulletin. I would consider it much more "powerful" than SMF. Just the plugin/hooks system for mods in vBulletin makes it worth the switch for me. Built in paid subscriptions is nice if you want to charge for anything. Built in posting of RSS feeds can be useful. Version 3.7 will be out soon which includes thread tags and some other nice new features. I don't know about faster.

What about IPB? Does that rank close to the other 2?
Not bad, but I will never use it again. The company lies. They told everybody that there would always be a free version of IPB when it was new. They later went paid only with version 2 and tried to delete all traces of ever saying that it would always be free. If you try to ask about it on their forum, you will most likely be banned.

I never liked IPB, is a paid forum script, but SMF is much better, now if we have vBulletin Vs SMF, vbulletin of course, is a paid script, but a good invest.
