Somewhat Affiliate Marketing?

I'm attempting a new business venture via these here internets. A friend turned me onto the idea of dropship warehouse sales, where you basically collect sales orders for other large companies, and then make the orders yourself and have them shipped directly to the customer, keeping a commission for yourself.

I'm excited about the idea, but so far everyplace I look seems to be just another scam.. especially all over google. They either don't have brand name merchandise, or they want you to pay monthly fees, or they're just an out and out total scam where they just steal money from you and the customers they send you to attract. It's getting to be pretty frustrating. Now that I've studied so much SEO, I think I could probably attract a decently large amount of customers, so I'd really like to get this nailed down.

Does anyone have experience in this field, and tips they could share? Perhaps a point in the right direction?

Or should I just dump the idea and get back to wordpress?

There is a chain of command when it comes to a product.

First, the product gets made, packaged and shipped from the manufacturer to a supplier. The manufacturer sells these products in bulk, and the price is the lowest it can get for the item.

Once the supplier has the product, they markup the price some and sell the product to the retail store. The product gets shipped in bulk to the retail store, which in turn marks up the price again and put its on the shelves to be sold to the public.

What you have to do, is get a relationship with the manufacturer, so that you can eliminate the two middlemen.

First, you have to contact the supplier of a product, how you find their contact details is up to you. They have lists of manufacturers that produce their product, and can be talked into giving you that list. Do whatever you have to when you talk to them, beg, cry, put out........just get that list!

Next is the real fun part. You have to contact the manufacturer to see if they are willing to drop ship. Some will, some won't. Most wont. You have to find out which ones will drop ship. When you do find one, you usually have to fill out an application. This asks you for a range of information, including one vital piece.....your TIN.

If you don't have a TIN, then you are as good as gone. Manufacturers don't want to deal with some schmuck off of the street. They want to deal with quality businesses, and that means that they have to know you have your shit straight.

Once they accept you and gain some trust in you, then the ball starts rolling and you can post their product on your store. Once you get orders in, you forward those orders to your new pals at the manufacturing plant and they will send the order straight to the customer. Customer pays you, you pay manufacturer and bada boom you have made $3.00!

Obviously, I have left out a bunch of steps and this is just a dummed down version of what really happens, but you need to do some of the research work you jackass. :)
