If you plan on doing most of your advertising and promotion using Pay Per Click, Google Adsense, Overture, etc... - you still must have a website that identifies your business, etc...
As someone new to the affiliate business I have been a little confused by the mandatory requirement all the quality networks have of owning a website. For one, if one is just starting out, he probably wouldn't have a reputable website running. Secondly, if one intends to promote via social networking, adsense, or other means, he may never intend to create a website or have no use for one. Finally, if the point of being an affiliate is to spend your own money to advertise for merchants, why would they need to see a website that identifies my "business"? (Which I don't have.)
Is there a way around this? Do I absolutely need to create a website before applying to these networks, and if so what kind of content should be on it? I've read a thread in this forum where a few people said they normally apply with an irregularly-updated blog featuring content that has nothing to do with affiliate marketing, which only makes this requirement seem all the more arbitrary. If anyone could offer some advice on this matter, I'd appreciate it a lot.
Thanks!
