Mate first you need to ensure all your pages are indexed before you go blasting on those link building.secondly make sure your on page are properly optimized with your targeted keywords,don't try to overuse them or you will be penalized heavily.third add unique,interesting contents on your site that actually does contribute to your niche audience rather then some crappy contents,which serves nothing.fourth try to diversify your link building campaign as much as possible,also make sure the anchor text are diversified as well instead of using the same one over & over again.hope this helps
Don't go buying links yet. See to it that you not just have quality content but also quality links [no buying] pointing to your website.
If you are asking for foundations It can never be bought! Period! you must do it on your own or hire someone to do it for you.. My suggestion? Do not buy any service unless you are planning on ordering some dripped packages. like 10 links a day for the next 10 days etc etc for google not to see any spikes
Now Here's what I'm doing with my sites and I hope you get the picture
Day 01 - get this links
5 - Web2.0's like wordpress, blogger, weebly of the kind
5 - Bookmarks
5 - Documents uploaded to scribd, docstock and the kinds
5 - spun articles converted into videos and upload to tubemogul, youtube and the kind. 5 sites = 1 video
5 - Register and post to Related High PR Forum Profiles (Easy to find just do a google Search and check PR of homepage before wasting your time) and do not link now wait 3 days and put your links on your sig and public profile
5 - Article Links from ezine, goarticles, articlebase, article blast and of the kind

5 bookmarks to your web 2.0 propeties
- software submissions to your web 2.0's (whatever software you have)
Do some RSS, directory submissions and meta tags to all your links produced today. Softwares on this are free on the web aside from the RSS but you can get some free stuffs as well. Just make a search.
Day 02 same as above
day 03 same and so on until you reach day 14. If possible don't repeat sites. Just make a google search and you'll find unlimited websites of the kind you are looking for.
By then you should've build steady backlinks to the site. NOw get to buy some .edu's and .gov while still building your links. Also by day 20 get a press release if possible get a service that offers a google news. Do this while still building the (day01 suggested) links...
For easy competition you should be on top 10 by day 14. I'm targeting Med competition like on workout niche and are getting into top 3 in 30 days.
**Remember - Perseverance is the key. Do your backlinking Simultaneously and "DO not" allow google to see that you have spikes. Like 50 links today, 0 links tomorrow, 20 links the other day and 60 links etc etc... do a steady backlinking and if possible have a schedule where (for me) I got an alarm everyday when to start the backlinking on my sites. Be patient and DO NOT CHECK DAILY STATS. Check them weekly but NOT EVERYDAY..
If you are asking for foundations there's your answer but if still you want to get some services running through your site then you might find yourself in the dumpster without even trying to do things on your own before outsourcing it.

anyways I find it easier if I divert my attention..
Like I have a service here on wickedfire. So after doing the backlinking I check my everyday checkist and just focus my attention to get all the checklist for the day, finish up projects etc etc, everyday.. btw I only work 12 hours a day and that's it. I get more productive getting a good rest.. then a TOTAL COMPUTER BAN after 12 hours
Don't want to spend all my life in front of the computer and I think that's why I'm not checking my ranks everyday
