What is a supression file?

Okay, I have never done email offers before. I honestly don't even have a mailing software to "spam" my email to tons of people with a spoofed address. I was searching Neverblue and saw an offer I thought I could run on YSM. I looked at the landing page, payout, ect, and thought it could be decent. I was going to set up and test it, then I noticed it was email only. I downloaded a 40mb supression file, opened it in wordpad, and it is just a huge list of email addresses.

Is a supression file a list of addresses I am allowed to send this offer to because they signed up for something with the company, allowing future offers? Or does the supression file mean this is a list of addresses I am not allowed to email?

Suppresion file is a list of email addresses to scrub your list aganist for that particular offer. Each advertiser has a list of people they do not want you to mail their offers for.

Suppressions should not be treated as an unsubscribe list. Those same users could still be opted in to a different offer.

Alright thanks. I saw the file had tons of email addresses, and wasn't sure if it was okay to email my offer to them.

So you said for that offer. Is it illegal to email them another offer? Say the offer was for home mortgage, and I emailed them an offer on weight loss using a completely different company for the offer.

I don't want to do anything illegal, I am just curious.

Think of it this way, a suppression file is list of people that have taken the time to request not to be mailed that offer any longer. They will surely take the time to complain about you sending them a different offer.

On top of that, it is very illegal to use a suppression file to mail any offer to.

More importantly, alot of suppression files typically contain spam 'traps'.

Which is very bad for you.

Skrilla can definitely expand on any of this. Although that is my two cents and any Aiffiliate network will certainly shut you down for mailing to a suppression file.
