What is "Google Dance"? How often does it happen?

I'm seeing my site bounce all around Google. One day it's number 2 then a month later it's 100.

Is that the "Google Dance"? Why would my site bounce around like that?

is it a new site? is there a diversity of backlinks?

Could be a million things.

Google dance, links getting indexed, algo changes, links getting deleted.

The site is 4 years old. I've build a very wide diversity of links. If I type in site:sitename.com into Google there are over 500,000 pages.

I'm still getting some traffic but a trickle of what it was just a couple of days ago.
