I started my first google adwords campaign and after the first day a whole bunch of keywords got inactivated by google. For example i bid $0.33 per keyword and now many of them stopped running and say "Increase quality or bid $0.50 to activate." One of them was displayed 5 times and got 2 clicks, but many others weren't even displayed once.

In each ad group i make sure the keyword is used in the ad, and my landing page is at least somewhat related to these keywords. Any suggestions on how to please the google monster?

Don't listen to the guy above. He does not seem to have reading comprehension skills to analyze a children's coloring book.

Your problem lies here:
One of them was displayed 5 times and got 2 clicks, but many others weren't even displayed once.

Your ads haven't even been shown enough for any history to build. They weren't displayed because you were not bidding high enough. I suggest you raise your bids or use the ad position preferencing system to get your self a position at 1.

Yes, you will be paying out of the ass, but think of this is an investment. You need to establish your ad campaign. In Google's eyes, establishing is by securing a high CTR. You are not going to be securing a high CTR when your ad isn't shown, so bid high and get your ad shown and clicked on.

Work on at least 5 different ad texts. Your ads should at least start out with 2.00% CTR, if not delete the campaign and start over. Deleting the campaign is important because Google incorporates campaign history so starting a new ad group won't help, start the whole mothafucka over.

Think of fixing your landing page (FOR CONVERSIONS. THE POINT OF MARKETING ON ADWORDS IS NOT TO PLEASE GOOGLE BUT TO MAKE CONVERSIONS FOR YOURSELF) after you get a stable campaign.

Once you get a high CTR, slowly turn the bids down. You will see that you stay in the same position with a lower bid. At this point, you have successfully sucked the fat giant dick of the Google monster and have pleased his mighty presence.

Go make cash.

Spot on advice there P.D

yeah you gotta bid high for new campaigns these days ...theres just no way around it if you want prime positions

start by bidding $5.00 per click .....but the trick is (so you dont lose to much money) is to set the daily budget to --$50-- per day

once your daily budget is up lower your click price to what google actually charges you ....repeating the process

oh and write enticing ads (that goes witout saying)

stick with one keyword per adgroup...

Start with exact match...

expand...

all you said here is very true and an excellent advice on my opinon. but I disagree with one point only "position preferencing system to get your self a position at 1."

I dont thinki bidding for 1. positions is a very good option. with 2 - 5 positions is good enough IMO

he got .32 % ctr and you guys say he should raise his bids?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA

Holy shit, douche bag alert!

It's all about relatives/comparing.

The preferred CTR Google wants him to have for that specific ad campaign is compared to the OTHER advertisers bidding on the same keywords. It's obvious his ads were being outperformed. 0.32 % CTR might be good when all the other advertisers are doing 0.02%... but its shit if the others are hitting 0.6 % or 1%.

Well he's obviously a dumbass if he thinks 2 clicks out of 5 impressions is 0.32% CTR.

No, you fucking piece of shit, you are an obvious dumbass for not even reading. Fucking dumbass, I hate parasites like you. If some of us weren't here you'd probably have jumped on the guy's fucking dick and wanted him in your shitty ass fucking camp.

Let's analyze.

What the fuck does the orange denote, you motherfucker? It denotes that he had MORE THAN 1 FUCKING AD GROUP AND HE COULD BE TALKING ABOUT ANY OF THEM WHEN HE MENTIONED HIS CTR.

The campaight[sic]started off at 0.32% CTR, though a couple ad groups are a little over 1%. :crap:
What the fuck does the pink mean???? Other than the color your gay boyfriend hand writes to you, it means that he was talking about the STARTING CTR for his campaign in the early stages. CAMPAIGN != (that means not equal to for your ebook reading ass) 1ADGROUP when he had multiple adgroups, as he was saying he got 2 out of 5 clicks for his adgroup, NOT CAMPAIGN.

FUCKING DUMBASS.

I wonder how your SHIT CUSTOMERS would feel if you are calling others dumbass when they want advice, obviously your shit feces that signed up want advice??? Good shit asshole.
....

Maybe you just wanted him to see your UberCamp signature? But no, I talked to him on MSN and helped him out, saw his landing pages, and the dude has a CONSIDERABLY GOOD PRODUCT, and just needs help getting it out there. Lets say UberAffiliate blog and UberAffiliate Camp is potentially worth $5. His product is worth $5,000,000. Thats how good it is compared to your shit!

YOU ARE THE DUMBASS.

Ah, OK.

I always go for #1 because that's where, consistently, the highest CTRs are achieved [for me anyway].

In the end, I think the learning method for new search marketers, who choose to use forums for help and research in the beginning, is flawed. It is very hard for someone to give you advice without seeing your campaign first (that includes landing pages and keywords and bid prices). Yes, people can take context clues, but that will only go so far.
But of course, the problem lies within the greed and dishonesty of human beings.

In the end it's best to learn from trial and error, but for most cases, that is costly.

Wow, that was an awesome post. My Coke just shot out my nose (the soft drink, not the powder).

This is always true. Start high, then turn the bids down once you've got decent CTR.

If you play your cards right, and have a great Quality Score, you could be ranked at #2 at $0.30 a click, while the guy ranked at #3 is at $0.35 a click.

Just examples, don't get on my ass about whether or not you could ever be at #2 with a $0.30 bid.

Good luck.
