I have a landing page dedicated to getting leads.

The page details if the person would qualify (veteran benefits) and if so to fill out the form to the right for more information.

Lately, things have slowed....

My question is:

Should I offer some e-book "Consumers guide to...." for free and just capture there information that way?

Our goal is to contact these people (people that would qualify) and to take them towards the next step.

Any insight?

Thanks in advance and happy holidays!

You need to be a bit more specific. How have things slowed down?

Is the traffic landing to your page the same amount its just that your conversion ratio is down? Or are less people clicking on your ad so you get less traffic to your landing page?

Same traffic just less people interested in service.

I was thinking that some people who are interested leave the site just because they don't want to give out their personal information.

I was thinking maybe a free report would be a nice incentive to have.

Alright, first of lets cover the basics.

Have you experimented with your landing pages? Or always kept the same one? If you always kept the same one try experimenting, I try to have two landing pages at all times and drop the low converting one and keep pimping the higher converting one. Usually things get better.

Now in your situation giving free stuff does work, the entire porn affiliate industry is based on that...to the point that there is no need to buy porn.

This is a little trick you can do. Lets say your form needs, Name, Email, Address right? Say get this free ebook emailed to you. SO now you have their name and email.

Once they commit to that all you need is their address. So ask them for it for your form, with some PHP you can grab the name / email they have already given you.

There is a sales trick, giving you something for free makes you more willing to get more. This is why the Khrisna's give out flowers and then ask for a donation.

With my forms I try to get the user to input as little as possible. When I was running a dating site offer I was using PHP to figure out the Country / City they were from, for their username I would generate it through their email address and for a password I would randomly generate it. That way all they had to do is put gender, sexual preference and email.

Oh, also when you email them their free ebook, in that email mention your page. Something along the lines of, if you want to get this and this for free go here and you will be mailed whatever you are giving out. You will be surprised how that works since you have gained their trust by delivering what you promised them, namely a free ebook.

Also don't call it ebook for most people its geeky. Call it something else, something that appeals to your audience without being a lie.

thanks for the insight.

I just read about the Khrisna's in the "Influence" book by Cialdini

That book is amazing for any salesman. It applies to affiliate marketing a lot. One of the thing that fascinates me about affiliate marketing is trying to get into the mindset of the common user and successfully sell to them.
