An affiliate marketing newb...

I put this on DP, but it seems smarter to put it here lol :)

Well what most people are saying is to create landing pages for your affiliates, so here are my questions:
  1. Where would you create an affiliate page? (New Domain Name or Sub-Domain Name)?
  2. What type of content would you include in the landing page?
  3. How would you design the page for your visitors?
  4. Would you include other affiliate landing pages on the same domain name (different pages)?
  5. For aZoogle, do you have to signup with an affiliate or do you just use the supplied link? (and what's a sub-ID?)
  6. Where would you market your landing pages?

Thanks!

1) Doesn't really matter. If going the subdomain route, I'd make sure the domain is atleast relevant. You see people all the time doing something crazy like, paydayloans.kenandsallywedding.com. I wouldn't be that guy. Just register a domain, for the cost of domains these days it just doesn't make sense not to.

2) Do whatever everyone else is going (at least at first) just to see how things are for your competition. Modify the content to make it your own but generally do what they do. Then change, test, change, test, etc.

3) See 2.

4) Sure, I make different pages for every place I advertise it. Plus your campaign might have a sub niche so you're want to specifically address it here and send relevent keywords to this page. If nothing else just to change the tracking info.

5) At azoogle when you're approved they approve you for a wide range of offers you can immediately begin promoting without getting approval from each one (hundreds). With time however they will offer you more, ask you to test others, etc. But generally you get the whole catalog immediately. A sub-id is a tracking word you can stick on to the end of the affiliate link for your tracking purposes. You can then run reports by sub-id. I use it simply to track where the ppc conversions came from (Yahoo, MSN, siglink, etc.)
