what's the simplest way to make blogs that look like this?

i really look the look and speed of these blogs:

i'm on a mac and write in markdown. what's the simplest way to create a simple text-driven blog like this that loads fast, has interesting typography, and won't require a lot of tinkering.

i'm used to working in wordpress, but since this will be a more personal blog, and these guys aren't using wordpress, i figure there are more optimal solutions.

I'd stick with Wordpress on this one. And why not? It does everything you need.

Do a search for minimalist wordpress themes, and it will turn up a bunch of options much like your two examples. I see them all the time.

EDIT: If you're willing to pay, Themeforest is probably your best bet.

not trolling. i'm stupid when it comes to coding. what's a good platform for someone who just writes in markdown on a mac? i'm interested in speed. also, i don't want to totally rip their designs off. i want a similar background, but not the exact same.

thanks. i may do that. but i was searching on themeforest before making this post. i can't seem to find something that let's me choose whatever font i'm interested in. also, most seem way too complex or slow for a site that's meant to be simple.

If you're not to good a hand coding html/css and using a DB I would suggest you build a test/dev site on a separate domain/localhost to learn, break and fix. At the very least you should be able to read it and edit/de bug when things go wrong, as they often do.

Then use WP for you live site so you can actually start building. For non standard fonts on WP, once you get inside to edit templates many of them have additional fonts from google or typefont etc. if not they all have a manual process tutorial. Insert the link to the font in your header and add the font name to the css.

You do realize you can define the font family for any theme in the .css. If it's Arial and you want Impact, last I heard, you can change that. I code in frontpage on PC and my css skills are only slightly worse than my Russian, but even I could probably make a font change happen.
