Start by reading everything you can get your hands on.

You might not get rich right away, but, after a few weeks, you'll be able
to make wisecracks and insult the noobs.

I'd say,read for a month. Make notes,lots of notes.Then start working. Anything. Then read only if you're looking for a solution on a specific problem. Don't get sidetracked on "ideas" and "sideprojects" that "look promising".

I would say. Read up for a week or so on niche adsense blogs, try and make one, fail and learn from the experience. I've been learning and doing SEO for the last couple of months and I am pretty confident that I have a good knowledge now.

Read up posts from Bompa and dchuk to get nice pieces of information.

The most important rule however is to always do experiments. Some things work for some people, others don't.

Earn some money and start spending it to make it more by building money sites.
 
I started by creating a website on Weebly. I didn't know a thing about SEO, but I wrote a bunch of articles, and submitted them to article directories and had them all pointing to my site. Once, and if, you make any money re-invest it in the business in terms of SEO, content, and hosting.
 
I'll suggest you to do the home work first. First find the good niche to target and then study about the methods to promote your product. Always remember that Failure means Experience :)
