Where to start...

This is my first post in this forum so I've mentally prepared for all of the vicious comments, gross photos and just plain mean attacks. But also ready for the comments from the truly wise and experienced marketers that want to genuinely help others.

I've been a professional web designer for the past 10 years and am currently the marketing director for a local software company. I've been learning about affiliate marketing for the past 2 years and have managed to save up some money for PPC.

So far, I've run 2 Google PPC campaigns for diet rebill offers (acai). The first campaign converted but for every $2 I spent I would only make $1 commission. The second campaign had me losing a little bit less, but still losing.

I figured the space was way to competitive for a newbie. So now I am looking at running some zip/email submit offers using PPC. Really what I am looking for is a confidence boost. Getting in the game and making a profit. Getting a base hit instead of trying to hit a home run.

Is this a good way to go, PPC to email/zip, for a newbie?

I am sure that all of you that are successful, had to find a way to break into the industry, and can remember how great it was to finally have a campaign that made even $1 profit. Appreciate your advice and am willing to be of service with my design abilities if there is anyone that may need help.

lol, I like that, Riddler got pwned.

plastikpower, too hard to even tell you where to start and how to start. There is just too much info.

If you must do ppc on search engine, start with msn, lower volume, but cheaper clicks and higher conversion rate imo.

Then take converting stuff, expand them, move to yahoo slowly while testing your landing page.

Once you have a good set of keywords and a good tested landing page, then move to google.

most zips scrub like crazy. make sure you have an account with fluxads and addrive before you get into that space so you can find some decent ones.

I'd stay off zips for now & maybe try something w/ lead gen. Designing sites you've probably been exposed to a wide variety of niches. If you're a decent programmer you could also do something w/ datafeeds & higher-end product sales.

Zips might get you a little confidence boost but as mentioned before they'll start scrubbing. You'll also need a razor-sharp process to scale (e.g. outsourcing army) if you have limited time to put into this.

The effort you'll put into that as a beginner could be just as well put into a campaign with substantially more profit. Check c2m - they have a training forum and their AMs tend to be pretty helpful giving you some fresh ideas for traffic sources... though they speak in riddles sometimes so be prepared to take what they say and do some digging.
 
Fake credit cards + fake name generator = key to success

... but really, I suggest hitting Facebook as a noobie. I've published a bunch of beginner guides in specific niches I push towards affiliates. I found it pretty easy to jump into in the beginning.

I loved that, I must admit... :rasta:

My suggestion would be reading the forum. There's plenty of good advice here. I've really learned a lot on WF.

Now, although I'll never call myself an expert on PPC (I'm more on SEO than on PPC), I think the best way to start is being as specific as possible when bidding for keywords (that means buying less clicks and probably at a cheaper rate) and setting the campaigns not just on the keywords but also turning it on and off some hours or dates.

Testing which is the best ad is crucial too.
