i'd like to hire somebody to create something similar to what is found here for my site:

Smart.fm

i've created a product and a high quality presentation like this would be a pretty awesome way of explaining the product. if i already have what i would like to say and the story written, would this be more than a one man job? ie. would someone first need to design the graphics, and then somebody else need to create the presentation? or, are there people that specialize in creating these kind of high quality presentations for companies? where's the best place to look for creating something like this? i've been using elance/guru/getafreelancer but most people's portfolios look COMPLETELY unimpressive, and i don't want to hire any of them. so where does one go to hire quality graphic designers? how much should i expect to pay for something like this? and what kind of skills should they have (or what was used to make this video)?

This things run for +/- $2,000-$4,000 for a 45-180 second clip. It takes a solid time investment in this kind of things and writing out a solid script to follow. The dude needs to be good at After Effects and a pro at Illustrator/PSD, so it takes some skill or sometimes a solid duo or team.

I have outsourced this kind of things for digital signage ads, pretty darn good quality and creative, but its expensive. I have to look for their contact details if you want a referral because it was a long time ago, so if you are really interested send me a PM and Ill try and get them for you.

@MDSandB: I used 99designs to get a logo. I don't see anything on 99designs related to video design, or am I just missing it? Also, that would require me to give away all kinds of information away that I don't necessarily want publicly available until the product has launched.

@dabreadman: Thanks, I'll send you a PM. I wouldn't mind paying that much if I got exactly what I wanted out of it.

@all: Would it probably be smartest to hire someone to first design all possible graphics and, once that is done, go out and hire someone to make it into a nice video? Or, would they need to work together?

I worked at a firm that did this sort of stuff for a few years.

Go to one shop to do all of it. Don't try and have it animated before put together. If you are able to pay the 2-4k then you can find a good small firm to do this all in house. Sadly I can't recommend my old firm cause they are cock suckers. Good luck and looks cool.

SECRET TIP: search for 'moving typography' or 'aftereffects experiment' or 'kinetic graphics' or 'motion graphics' on youtube and contact someone who's just fucking around with that stuff. this is all done in aftereffects and is surprisingly easy. you can get it done for much cheaper if you contact some late teen/early 20s person just doing this for fun who's good at it than a freelance site where people know what this type of job usually goes for. i even reckon you could get a sick 60 second one done for a few hundred and the person would be more than happy for even that much if you find the right person via youtube.

That above is true, there are some pretty darn talented 15-16 year olds nowadays on this kind of stuff.

But it's not that easy! The animation on AE is pretty straight forward, but making all those illustrations step by step and then animate it, then build the next one and animate it. Takes time and patience. Easy, of course if you have the time and the skills... as everything.

My advice would be to not lowball someone with a couple bucks, cause they might do it and finish it but small details like timing and transitions are important in this kind of vids.

I would first write a good story line, and once you have that signed off on your mind, write a script and hire a freelance voiceover artist at voice123.com (pay around $50-$100 per 300 words) to do he voice over.

Then once you have that done approach some dude and give him your ideas.

I think you could save quite a few hundred going this way, and will turn out good if you find a talented dude.
