Hello guys,

This is one of my first real posts on WF. If I sound abit newbish its because I'am!

Okay, to the point. I started BeautyBoo.com a while back with view to using PPC and SEO to drive traffic to content mixed in with affiliate offers.

Feel free to have a poke around and please let me know where I'am going wrong.

Ohh, I have learnt a valuable lesson during the infancy of this site. Block China from your PPC campaign. They killed me for $80 before I even noticed what was happening!

At the moment I think I have had around 3 conversions with NeverBlue, with GoogleAdsense coming up with around $8 for 52 clicks.

Most of my traffic is coming from PPC, with around 2 visitors a day organic!

Any advice, tips, suggestions would be great.

Thanks for your time!

Try having updated content, it helps for getting people to come back if they see that the site is active. If you do not have the time to do this, hire people.

Next, have you tried to post to some of the health and beauty forums/communities, such as makeupalley? This can help with getting more traffic and SEO.

On to the design, nauseating pink. My wife's site is a subtle pink and it works, although I will not totally dis the color since I am a guy and would not use your site.

Welcome to Wickedfire Fuzzo...

Your site is decent, but here's my box score:

1. If I went to a beauty site (on purpose), I would expect to see a LOT of pictures. I mean, pictures everywhere. Celebs, makeovers, fashion, workout tips, etc. The works.

2. Your logo is too small, and fades in to the pink too much. Punch it up.

3. There's no "about us" page that states why you're an expert. That's something people will be looking for.

Anyways. Yeah the most obvious thing is that if you want people to actually respond to your site - pictures pictures pictures.

Just a few points that might be of help.

I'd swap the adsense in the header for a flashy, attractive banner with some cheap offer or another. Something in the 'free sample' arena. I'd imagine you'd get more clicks and it will add some 'activity' to an otherwise inanimate page.

With article titles, think linkbait. Instead of "Fifteen Minute Makeover," try something like, "MUST READ: Gorgeous Makeover In Fifteen Minutes or Less!"

Also, make your RSS icon a little more accessible - I had to search for a bit before I spotted it hiding up there in the corner.

Definitely go with what Dave suggested above (he's certainly correct about the pictures).

I'm not absolutely certain of your gender, but if you're a guy, try and think like a girl when you're designing. Maybe flip through a girlish style magazine next time you're at the supermarket for inspiration/ideas.

Finally, you could find a female friend, your sister, mother, or gay hairstylist (I know there are plenty at this here gay webmaster forum) and have them take a look. Take their advice seriously, as those types will be highly representative of your target audience.

Well, I'm a guy and I'm a n00b as well, so you probably don't give a damn about my €0.02 but...

- What DaveEMG (I hope I wrote it right) said about pictures is true. Add some, it will make your website look not only nicer, but also more... how can I say... "alive"
- The pink is not that bad, but try with a different nuance. Testing is free, right?
- Finally... I'd put some relevant affiliate offers between articles. Example: at the end of the Fifteen Minute Makeover article see if you can put, let's say, an offer for a free powder/cream blusher sample. It may sound stupid and it probably is, but it may work.

Other than this... nothing. I'll let the experts talk about details. I hope this was useful.

Hi Fuzzo, some tips

1) Make a special beauty product comparison page wont hurt. Try to compare 3 - 5 product while pushing your main offer. and remember that "call to action" to make visitor go to your offers and do action that you want. Try to be honest and don't blatantly pushing your offer too much. Pros and cons could do. Put the link to the comparison page above the fold.

2) Put your pages such as contact, privacy policy, etc somewhere bellow. You are wasting your precious above the fold space there.

3) Go with Dave, put more images. Yours are too "hollow"

4) what the fuck with that "register" and "login" link on sidebar?

5) I don't think "archive" is necessary. Categories is good enough.

6) what the visitor should do to join your newsletter? Some visitor are retards they may want to join but don't have clue if what they should do is putting their email address there. Also: why would their join your newsletter? Give them some expectation what they will get. IMHO your newsletter sign-up box is not hot enough to make them subscribe.

7) you can put more adsense block on the footer. Too bad your footer area is not exploited with any ads. IMHO putting another adsense block there won't hurt

8) who are you calling yourself expert? Give a little explanation there to create "authority". People won't know If you don't tell them

9) elime's right, make your RSS subscribe link more accessible. I hardly noticed it where I should subscribe. You may want to try addthis.com

10) post boobies on this thread to keep more tips coming

There once was a button on the wickedfire forum called "SEARCH" fucking use it

Please keep in mind that this IS the newbie questions area. Thanks.

Not sure what your doing for a PPC campaign, but if you're driving to your homepage then you got a prob.

Your site is ALL text. If i'm a chick (which i'm not) and i search for beaty or whatever, i wanna see some pretty ladies with makeup. i want the site to feel warm. Now it looks like i'm reading a book..

2. if you are driving to your homepage, how do you plan on making money? through adsense? i gaurantee you are spending more per click then you will get for people clicking on your adsense ads.

do you want them to do your affiliate offers? an are you assumming they are gonna search your site to find them? you need to link directly to you offers pages and you need to have a very bold CTA (call to action) ABOVE the fold. And ditch the adsense. you don't wanna pay $.30 a click hoping to get a good lead only to have a user leave your site via adsense and you get $0.15 a click...

hope those comments help some.....
