I am designing themes and it seems by looking at other themes there are only two types or styles of pages. One for blogs and one for text, pics etc. like a normal webpage. Are these the only two options or are there more that I dont know of? When I upload a theme for people to use are there mroe than two types of pages that I can offer them?

dzstein, I think the difference is really more in how you think about it. WordPress was originally designed to be for blogs, but for a lot of reasons, has become a very popular CMS, too. It's true that it's basically organized to have "pages" and "posts," but there's no reason those can't be combined together regardless if you're running a blog or a "conventional" site or whatever else.

Moreover, there's no effective limit on the number of different styles you can have within a theme -- some of the popular CMS-type (i.e. "site style") WordPress themes have 100+ different layouts designed for various situations. WPremix is the one example that comes to mind immediately, but of course there are many others.

Hope that helps;

By default wordpress allows you to select custom page layouts when you publish a page, ie archive template. You can make as many of these custom page layouts as you want. This is not the case for post pages unless you use a plugin like WordPress › Custom Post Template WordPress Plugins.

The basic layout elements you have with wordpress is the index.php, page.php and single.php.

What I suggest is to download this Mainstream|WooThemes theme from woothemes to see how they use the page templates to create more layouts. If you really want see some advanced index.php layouts using page id's then buy this theme Coffee Break|WooThemes.
