I understand many affiliates are making enough or enjoy the independence of being their own boss, but do any of you think about working for an interactive agency and doing their SEM?

It seems like it would be a great way to have a paycheck and it would give you the ability to make mistakes that you would learn from on another persons dollar.

Any insight or people who currently are doing this or have before?

I work for an interactive agency in addition to doing my own side work. If you don't mind having a boss it's not bad.

But who the fuck wants a boss?

If you need to learn, the best way is through testing. When you work with other people, you can explore things and ideas and bounce ideas off of each other. Go for it if you don't mind not owning your work

I used to be a copywriter for Arc Worldwide (Arc Worldwide), it's the interactive side of Leo Burnett. They did not do any SEM, it was all creative, branding and promotions. I learned SEM on my own and the combination of my writing/creative skills and my knowledge of SEM/ conversion optimization have helped me do much more (and make much more) on my own v.s. staying with an agency.

Exactly why I would jump on this opportunity if I was ever offered it. I have a friend who recently bought a small-time restaurant and I'm trying to offer to manage his advertising budget...if they even have one, lol.
