So I just found out that my host has a terrible (red) WOT rating. I've been treated nicely and have no complaints with their service, but will this be a major factor in how my pages are ranked? It seems all the low ratings are from a few years ago, but all the recent ones have been good.

Yes, if you have a shitty host - performance wise, Google will take that into consideration. Certain hosts are able to 'absorb' backlinks better. Could be because of shitty neighborhoods, shitty IP class that's been spammed to death, or overall bad or slow performance.
