My brother runs a pretty awesome data company. They are able to track software sales (Mostly mobile, but they also have downloadable content sales, and are expanding to physical sales soon). His system tracks sales almost in real time and can break it down to how many units any piece of software is moving per day.
One of the things I asked him about was the ability to track website sales in real-time for physical products. I guess he has the ability to do it quite easily. This would be a tool that would allow any marketer to see how much volume any particular store is moving on amazon.com and other retailers.
For instance, say you're doing market research for a new ecommerce product - Ecigs, and you want to know how much volume they're moving.
For instance, he can determine that this particular ecig [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Powermatic-Electric-Cigarette-Injector-Machine/dp/B003TQPRDW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1360793567&sr=8-2&keywords=electronic+cigarette"]Amazon.com: Powermatic 2 Electric Cigarette Injector Machine: Everything Else[/ame] has sold a total of $274,500 since January 2011.
So, my question is whether or not there would be much of a market for this data, based on a subscription (Say $50/mo) to access the product database and view what is selling on amazon.
