How do you become someone's personal assistant online?

Hi!

I'm sort of a newbie here. I peek in from time to time but haven't really posted much.... :rasta: yet. :eek7:

I would like to become someone's personal assistant online. I'm a female writer (29 years old) (don't get any naughty idea's there boy's :action-smiley-052:) and live in the USA. If any of that really matters lol. :nopenope: (didn't think so!)

I would like to make anywhere from $400-500 or more per week. I can do a variety of things such as manage teams, write articles, rewrite articles, post on WP and so forth. I am also online almost all of the time because this is what I do for a living. ;)

Do you all think that people would even want a personal assistant these days or do most people just tend to only outsource and do things mainly themselves?

Where would be the best place to look for a job like this online??

Thanks for your feedback on this!

Most people do go for the cheaper VA's from the Phillipienes. So, it'd take someone recognizing that it's probably cheaper to pay someone more without having to rewrite or redo some of their stuff to hire you.

Depending on exactly what you want to spend your time doing you can make a thread here in the BST section to solicit yourself.

Once I finish my master's in May and stop driving so much, I do plan on hiring a PA - but it'd be someone who's physically present. I don't know if you want to run around your house in your panties or not, but you might consider that option too (physically working at an affiliate or web development agency).

IMO your greatest strength is that you are a native US writer, so sell your writing, not any of the other services you are intending to sell.

And because of the kind of income you are aiming for, you should look in places like elance, where real companies with real budgets are looking for decent writers.

You're probably not looking to find employment on this forum itself, but just in case you are, my advice is not do that, because people here are mostly savvy enough to know where to get help for drop-dead low prices.

For that type of job you sadly can't compete with philipinos/indians/those countries... they are just to cheap and still provide good work. But what you do have in your favor that they wish they did... is that you are american and native english speaking. Articles could be a good place for you... just do it on the side while you learn all of this yourself :)

What you're looking to make is quite do-able, but it won't come easily. It's true that you'll find it hard to compete with foreign prices, but that doesn't mean you can't get into decent money. Just set your prices higher, but also make sure that you give the customer a flawless (or nearly flawless) product.

Writing is the best bet, since it gives the quickest return for a newbie.

I agree with you there. However, there are risks involved when you hire someone overseas, such as the time zone difference but it all depends on where you are from and what things matter to you the most.

I think that I might do that. I'm trying to figure out exactly what services I would like to put out in the BST section.

Oh, congrats to your success! I like working online because it gives me the freedom to work from home, which I really like.

Thank you very much for your suggestions :)

Excellent point!

I have not heard of elance before. I'll look into it!

If I do decide to do just article writing, my main goal would be to find someone who can provide solid and good work for me weekly. :)

Agreed. I like your signature. I might PM you later.

Why don't you just make some of your own affiliate sites? If you love to write it should be pretty easy to make $500 a week. You could even just use Adsense and make more than that...

demandstudios hires Us-based writers. I work for them sometimes when I need extra cash. you get $15/articles which is honestly pretty good for starting out. I've gotten clients on elance, but even there you're competing with foreign workers who write content for dirt cheap.

I would make a few of your own sites with great content and use them to boost your portfolio on elance since it can be hard to break in there. or put in an application with demand, you can easily make 400-500/week there if you can put up with really boring stuff.

My recommendation is to jump on Craigslist and look for writing work there. It is usually in the computer section in the gigs area. A lot of blogs are looking to pay a decent amount for someone who is trustworthy and local.

I would, but I honestly don't know anything about affiliate sites. :bigear:

I applied for demandstudios but they don't seem to be hiring right now. However, they didn't "deny" my application, so I'll check back again soon.

I wouldn't even know what kind of sites to make or use.

I've looked at Craigslist before but not in that section. Thanks for letting me know!

As a suggestion you might want to create some kind of a portofolio. An easy way to start from scratch would be to offer some free services to a couple of people with the understanding that you will do it for free but share your work to others as a resume of shorts.

dont market yourself in the US. try for China or Dubai.... foreigners with large pocketbooks.

Lol! You're not going to make it very far sitting around and filling out online applications. Writing is an easy gig to get started in; you just need to get rolling with it. I started with a forum, who cannot be mentioned for good reason. Anyhow: 1. You make a sales thread on a popular forum, 2. Pitch yourself to people who are looking for what you offer, 3. Give the customer a good value (good grammar/punctuation, along with readable material), 4. Keep in contact with the big fish who order a lot and give them deals when appropriate....

You get the idea. While you're fucking around trying to over-complicate making money; there are thousands of people who are willing to pay you.

I quit my job one morning, started writing articles in the afternoon and had $50 in my paypal account by 5pm (Imagine what a full day could bring). It's something I can now always use to make money, no matter where in the world I am. Just get started!
