Firefighters let house burn to the ground...

The fee is so small, the residents should not have been given the option to opt out of an essential service in the first place. Just roll it into their taxes.

If they insist on giving them the option to opt out, they should have still put out the fire for a fee significantly higher than $75 and put a lien on the house until its paid.

The problem with standing there and doing nothing is what if a resident HAD indeed paid and there was a simple mix up in paperwork? Letting the house burn is risky business as it can't be reversed.

Also, what about the animals that died in the fire? I guess they should have to suffer for their decisions their owners made too.

To bad and sad for homeowner, if it was me I would have put it out, even though he didn't deserve it. They ought to say fee is $75, but if your house burns and we will come out you will pay the actual cost of said response. I pay a fire protection fee, it's built into my water bill. He chose the burn to the ground option instead of the put out the fire option. Bet this won't sit well with his insurance company.

OK OK yes I'll agree to that. The lien on his house does make sense.

But note that if everyone could pay after the fire already started, then how are you going to pay for the the equipment upkeep and salaries during the quiet periods with no fires?

EMT (ambulance) runs and car wreck protection. My dad was a firefighter for 32 years, a good friend has been one for almost 10, for every fire that may need to be put out they will run on dozens if not a few hundred heart attack, car wreck, and various medical calls that will require only the ambulance.

I'm kind of surprised none of the rank and file guys broke ranks and went after that fire, the chief must have put the fear of god in them if they considered helping. I can't imagine my dad would have let somebody's house burn down in front of him after all he's seen of what it does to people, and the younger guys on the force will tell you they get a hard on at the thought of putting out a fire (they pretty much universally hate the monotony of EMT dispatches)

damn, this shit cod happen to anyone, at a time when people are struggling to pay their bills some are opting out of protection like this. hate to be in a situation like this.. Imagine you cancel health insurance during tough times, with plans to get it back when your situation gets better. And just after you cancel the plan. Boom, you get diagnosed with cancer.

Fire chief is a bastard, he turned a unfortunate situation into a political move, to put fear in all the other homeowners to extort money from them, and make sure every single person pays.

This is the only reason why I guess he decided to do this.

The guy was a farmer who lived outside of the city's boundaries. The city has a population of 2,500 and it's residents tend to be poorer than those in the surrounding country. The county has 32,000 residents, many in rural areas, farms, and unincorporated entities.

The county residents voted down a small tax to pay for fire fighting services.

The city residents can't afford to cover the cost of fighting fires outside of it's boundaries, but in a show of compassion, offered to cover those outside of it's boundaries for a nominal fee of $75 a year.

This slack jawed teabagging hillbilly farmer didn't want to pay the $75/year. He didn't want county taxes to cover the cost. He wanted his poorer neighbors in the city to pay for him. He forgot that there ain't no such thing as a free lunch TANSTAAFL.

Furthermore, this slackjacked, marble mouthed teabagger was getting federal welfare in the form of agricultural farm subsidies for two farms he owned.

Quit trying to 'blame' the fire chief or the city. The only person responsible is Gene Cranick, owner of two farms in two states. Man who received free farm money from the government. Screw him. He gets no sympathy from me.

PS. I hope his scooter (paid for by Medicare) that he and his teabagging compatriots love to ride in while attending their teabagging rallies didn't melt down. Then that will be more of my tax dollars used to pay for his freeloading teabagging ass.

WOW. This is fucked up!

I wonder what they would've done if a child was trapped in the home?

Best part of the story:
Cranick's son, Timothy, was so angry he later went to the fire house and punched the chief, police said.

Good discussion. I was originally appalled and still think it questionable but I have to wonder, it seem like the fee is almost like insurance. You pay the fee and the firefighters fight the fire, you don't and they don't. No one would be appalled if the insurance company didn't rebuild the house if he never had insurance right? Not sure if this is the same or not. It's also similar to the good Samaritan laws, depending on where you fall on that argument as well.

^^I had the same initial reaction.

He sort of took his risks. The only thing is him offering to pay the costs when he called them. That makes it a dick move on the FD.

I will say this TN is the most back-assward, place ever. Whenever there is fucked up news it is there. They have the poorest, dumbest, most racist people anywhere in this country.
LOL at your obvious mental retardation and thinking that backward people are confined to one state. Thanks for the levity, moron.:action-smiley-052:

by refusing to pay the lousy $75 this fucker was saying to everyone else... 'hah. I'm not contributing to an essential communal service. If I NEED it, I'll pay'.

Shame insurance don't work like that.

They should still have put the fire out, but then charged him all the $75 annuals he missed, and an hourly rate for each and every firefighter putting his own life in danger to protect a selfish asshole, and equipment hire costs.

Like if you break your fucking leg on the mountain they'll come and get you in a chopper but it costs like $500 per 15 minutes. Unless you weren't an asshole and paid your insurance before you went up there.

So in the future are they going to check with the IRS to see if you are paying your taxes before they help you if you are in a car wreck?

They should.

Damn tourists (who don't pay city/county/state taxes) come here, get hit by a bus or whatever and get a free ride to the emergency room, free bed, free food, and a tv. All over some cracked ribs and a busted skull. Fucking parasites.

If human life was in danger, the city would have tried to save lives. That's their policy.

Do you want 2,500 poor residents of a small city (really a little town) to cover the cost of an entire county of 32,000 people?

The people of the county voted down a small tax to cover the cost of fire fighting services for the entire county. They didn't want any more taxes. People like that teabagging farmer had a choice, and didn't want to pay the small extra tax to cover it.

In the past, the city has waived the fee many times. Even the farmer's wife said so:

Couple claims firefighters refused to put out fire at their home - WSFA 12 News Montgomery, AL |
"It doesn't make sense," she said. "Two or three years ago this house up here caught fire. My son lives there but they waived the fee." Cranick said South Fulton firefighters had also previously helped people but sternly reminded them to pay the fee the next day.

But it always comes to a point where they have to choose, cover everyone and face bankruptcy - which means no one gets fire services - or prioritize limited resources to those who live in the city and offer to cover those outside the city for a nominal fee.

The teabagger gambled, and he lost.

Guys there is no justification to the firefighter fagots action !! even if this dude wouldnt of paid for 200 years the fee wouldnt cover half of the house..

this is a bullshit thing to do. and these firefighter left the dude without a home..
i dont see how can any of you support these fags.

I'm sure the town would like to see the majority of these shitholes burn down such that new construction would bring in more tax revenue.

Since when do people pay fees for the firefighters?
Next we'll have to pay fees for the police and soon enough doctors won't send ambulances unless you pay a fee to the hospital.

What happens with all the taxes?

As long as this man's life wasn't in danger, it's not the government's job to bail him out of trouble. Queue up the liberals.

I'm not Liberal, but you pay taxes on your home or an equally related tax on your Income or Sales tax depending on the state. Tennessee doesn't have property tax, the increased Sales tax goes to cover fire and police protection.

That's a bitch move on the county and one that will end up in Federal court, costing the county money.

I dont know what will happen with this case but i really hope that his son assaulted
that cock sucking mother fucker firefighter's ass and sent him to spend some quality time in a hospital thinking about the stupid move he and his moron friends at this firefighter's department did to this guy!.

this Shit really get me outrages! i mean what the fuck !
